Anyone recommend tackle shops in the North East who have a good supply of sea fishing gear at reasonable prices? Most of the ones on Teesside seem to have a bit of stuff but not massive stocks to browse.

Go to Moonfleet mate everything ya need and ya can browse :-) and try lures in a tankI am a fisherman !
It is not merely something that I do
It is who I am !
Fishing is not simply my escape.
It is where I am supposed to be.
It is not a place that I go
But a lifelong journey that I am taking
It is a passage that was shown to me and that I will continue to show others.
When you understand all of this you will then know me .
And we will fish together

They have a couple of racks of really decent rods, loads of choice in other classes of fishing too.
Horden shop is friendly, small in comparison and doesn't have much stock of decent equipment. I use them whenever I can as I prefer to give business to small shops rather than the giants but you need to have the stock to look at though.
Word of caution. Dragoncarp in Peterlee.
Stay away. Had loads, I mean LOADS of problems with most of the things I bought there when I took the sport up again. The reel gears went in the 1st week. The rods all (even the ones I replaced them for) lost ring inners within 4 to 8 weeks, the tackle box fell apart in 6 weeks and the Dunlop 2 piece fishing suit had all the pocket stitching come away. I wouldn't buy a parachute from them for sure...........
Even the 60lb leader I asked my missus to buy when she was in the town centre was $hite. At 1mm thick I can't even bend it into a knot. You can hang washing out on it.
The spool says: "Soft and strong. Low diameter. Lays perfectly on reel. Produces perfect knots". Honestly you could tow a 747 across the runway with it.Told the missus I was going on a diet. I'd only eat what I caught
