  • Drop Nets.

I have seen some of these on e-bay for £7.50. 21" diameter.
Asked in NE tackle yesterday if they had any for sale. Not yet said Darren but they are coming in.
Darren also said there seems to be some people uncertain about using the nets. Like its a done thing to lose the big fish.Seems to be a sea fishing trait. How many fresh water people fish without nets. I use one for trout.
21" Drop Net - Pier Fishing Tackle - Crabs, Prawns Etc on eBay, also Other Sea Fishing, Sea Fishing, Fishing, Sporting Goods (end time 14-Dec-07 17:00:00 GMT)

I can remember three years ago fishing of Blyth pier about 20 or 30 yards from the bend, got a belter of a bite and up to the surface came a 8lber, I didn't dare try to lift it so I walked it back to the beach, it got wrapped round the pier legs twice with the swell coming past but I managed to unwrap it, I got it back to the beach and another very kind chap who was packing in climbed over the railings waded into the water and wrapped his tea towel round my fish and carried it to dry land. The pains in my arms were unbelievable I thought I'd torn every muscle in my arm holding the rod out over the railings for so long, anyway the moral of the story is if I'd had a drop net I would have had the fish up in a crack rather than having to trail all the way down to the beach. You may feel stupid carrying a great big drop net onto a pier but we all know who the stupid one will be when the big fish are brought to the surface!

Anyway rather than buying a drop net and having to carry it about for all to see I made myself this instead, not sure if it works didn't need it for the fish I caught last time I fished piers, but when I do fish a pier I take it with me, I'm pretty sure it will work and the good thing is it fits into your tackle box so no one knows it's there.

I walked onto Blyth pier one night with a couple of lads that were carrying a drop net. They were saying about the amount of people that really took the pee about them having it. I said I didn't blame them for carrying it and it was a great idea. I had a great session that night and after landing one fish of about six pound I hooked into another good one, when I got it to the pier the top hook from my Pennel got stuck on the base of the pier. One of the lads came down with the net and got it free for me. It was about 7 1/2 lb when it was weighed back at home and I would have lost it.

Never a good idea to look a gift horse in the mouth lol.

I was shown this website a good while back and was quite impressed with these nets. It was MikeR that pointed it out on the forum. I went to have a look in my favourites tonight and for some reason it wouldn't come up so I did a google. Unfortunately there are no prices that I could find on it but the net itself looks great and it will be very easy to transport it too.

It looks the bizz to me.

Alan i had the same on Blyth pier when i took my drop net along...comments like "what you expecting to catch jaws" i never caught anything massive that day 3lb being the best but i still used the dropped net.

For under £10 its worth having one.

you do see alot more people carrying them now,i've seen and heard of people walking big fish back off Blyth pier to beach them, not very practical or easy to do,also seen people climb down the ladders on the same pier to retrieve fish, very dangerous to say the least at best you could end up with a 4/o hook in your hand at worst you could be looking for the lad with the drop net to chuck you a line to stop you drowning.
mines half made behind the shed on the "to do" list
                  Cheers Alan...

got a wieghing net from fishing republic when it first opened .it is hinged on handle . i tied a rope onto the handle so there is an equal length each side . turn the net inside out and it stops open giving a good square openning for a drop net . when finished with put the proper way with the rope inside and it folds away to nothing and fits in your bag or onto the back frame on a box.
