    Alright all,

Sorry not contributed to much lately and have been holding a watching brief. Problem being been using abu7000 and pen525 mag extra and have not been getting away with them must be the technique so has put me off some what , also been spending a lot of time on me mates boat. But i guess it is that time of the year that i enjoy and I will need to face the demons head on so bought a penn surfmaster fixed spool(opinions would be appreciated) and a hopefully this will help the fluency over the winter months. Decided to fish my fishing club comp on sunday 5.30 - 21.30 at lynemouth (gypsy side) and any help/ advice would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

    keep practicing with your multipliers
you dont want to be stuck using a coffee grinder all your life
i gave that advice to another board member
and he always uses his multipliers now

    practice makes perfect

stick with it mate it takes time just make sure your brakes are on full until you get the nack of it.it will pay off in the end.also try to practice casting when your not fishing that way if things do go wrong your not missing out on fishing
was that a bite (na mate i think it was wind)

You've got a couple of decent reels mate,as sless says stick with it as IMO you need a Multiplier for winter use as the fixed spool is useless in heavy or mixed ground saying that you can get great use out of your fixed spool during the summer months for lighter fishing
        Cheers Alan...

Once you master the multiplyer Fishytail, your fixed spool will become a spare reel. May be that your cast is just a bit out on the timing. get a bit of help from the anglers in your club. and you'll not look back. dont give up

bang on the money there I reckon.

I was a bag o ****e with a multi for yonks, just couldn't get it to play nice, concentrate on my casting style and it suddenly clicked..

                worth persevering with...

still screw up now and again though! all part of the fun!

Some people just cannot get away with multiplyers. There are lots of them. Todays fixed spool are not like the rubbish ones years ago. I bet many will keep up with a multiplyer.
Personally tried both and i like the multiplyers.
I have a supermag and 7000. Have practised on a field. The abu has a tensioner on the centre of the reel. Its on the opposite side of the stardrag. Tighten that up and spool moves slowly. Loosen and it moves freely. Same as magnets on mag. Secret is to try with them on tight and loosen up as you gain confidence.
I have never seen a raffle on a fixed spool.

also hated my rod rest so bought an Ian Gold telescopic thing (any good?) sick of the flimsy thing that i had but was £30 from angling leisure. Anyway thought that I would study Lynemouth and in last Jan Sea angler apparently comps were won from there with the main catch being plaice should i target place or go for the bigger fish i.e cod on a pennel. The comp is length! according to the missus that is !

                    Cheers

i dont thin plaice are abot much this time of the year me personally mate would go for a pennel rig for cod try with 2o hooks there is always a chance of whiting too mate

If it's flat target the flatties, if its lumpy go for the cod.

just a little tip fishytail. Adjust the speed of your reel by winding the sinker up to the tip of the rod, and let it go in freespool, and it should slowly drop to the ground, theoretically you should be able to welly it without any probs. then take in to account brake blocks and magnets, and then loosen off the end cap untill you can handle the right amount of sideplay on the spool. keep the spool central to the cage. hope this helps

Mr Fishtail - practice, practice, practice and you won't even think twice about it.

STICK WITH IT it is worth it. I was the same as you 6 or 7 years ago.

I remember going loppy over me 525 mag but its a doddle now.

put thicker oil in your reels and bigger brake blocks till you get used to them, use nothing but 7000c and when tuned properly they run themselves

To be honest it probably is a great reel but all depends on where it was tested it will handle weed on clean beaches but will probably struggle badly trying to pull through kelp off a local rock mark
