  • Reel Maintenance.

When fishing yesterday i used two rods. The Mag on the Suveron. On the other my old Abu beachcaster and my old 7000.
I would say 75% of the casts with the 7000 ended up with it raffling. The reel has also been sounding like a bag of hammers lately.
Today i had some spare time so i thought right rather than chuck the reel or sell on t-bay lets give it a good clean out and greasing. Bearing in mind i have never done this.
Stripped the reel fully and sprayed with WD40. After an hour i used some special wax grease to spray into the moving parts. (motorcycle chain lube).
I then oiled the springs and other moving parts.
Just been down to Allensford and the reel is spot on. It is casting excellent.
Its a good reel to have as a spare. And if its not to crowded i,ll use two rods when fishing.

Goes to show , even if your equipment is old. Give it a good clean and a lube job and you can whack it out with the best of them

Theres not really alot inside a reel, providing you dont completely strip it that is,wash and clean them after every session and they should last you years

Alan one or two things dropped out but i figured where to put them. Plus the reel was bordering on the bin.
