Braid:
The Pros
Quality braid line will not stretch like mono so bites are easier to detect, The strength of braid line also makes it a great opposing agent to abrasion which causes other fishing lines (mono) to break. Fish often inhabit rocky ground or structure so your line will often come into contact with this structure so abrasion resistance is an important thing to consider when using braid.
The Cons
As braid has no stretch, it is much easier for the angler to rip the hooks out of the fish’s mouth. Any force imparted on the rod tip is replicated at the hook so take care when striking fish. Braid is also easier to see in water so most people will not tie a hook directly to braid, but rather attach a monofilament leader.
Although braid resists abrasions more than mono it does wear quite easily so any fracture or nick in the line should not be overlooked. Braid is also more expensive than mono unless you buy the chinese braid but expect a couple of weeks for it to arrive if you buy from there

Anth your best off looking at the diameter of the braids. Their strength is far higher to that of mono of equivilant diameter. (ie: 20lb mono might be 0.35mm where as braid of 0.35mm might be 50lb breaking strain). This allows you to use much heavier breaking strains and not lose anything in casting distance etc. Im not sure how braids sits on a multiplyer though as I only ever spool mine with mono and only use braid on my fixed spool spinning set up. Im sure one of the other lads will fill you in though!"In order to becomes old and wise, first you must be young and stupid."

It's thin in comparison to mono and all of the points raised in the pro's and con's are true.
China/Ebay takes up to a month though.
I ordered some 40lb on 22nd Feb and it's arrived today.
Casting is no problem, line strength for the diameter is great as heavier weights can be used without a shock leader.
ie a 30lb braid would be OK with 4 oz leads unless you're trying to heave them to Norway on a pendulum cast. Just use a sensible rottom bottom of say 15 lbs and snoods of similar. The rotten bottom to save losing braid just in case there's a snag even on sandy beaches.
I tend to fish holding the rod when after flatties and to have the line over my finger to detect the smallest of twitches just a I do for legering on rivers with my coarse tackle.
I had a session a couple of weeks ago where I had one rod with mono on the reel and another rod ( lighter one) with 30lb braid and I missed several bites on the mono as it took too much time to stretch on the strike whereas the braid did make quicker contact resulting in me catching the pesky little critters tapping at the bait, ie rockling and bullheads.Told the missus I was going on a diet. I'd only eat what I caught

Depends on diameter. I just got some 40lb stuff which is .26mm. So going off that I would say you'll need to back them with mono mate. At the same time dont over fill with braid or you'll have problems.Last edited by topbanana; 12-03-2014, 02:55 PM.Regards Nicky.
