Agree with sless, but in a heaviest bag comp how many smallish fish get binned after the weigh in. 90% of us on here complain about commercial boats but we must put our own house in order first. Not having a go at anyone inperticular just a general moan/rant

I've decried the heaviest bag thing before, because it does seem wasteful - especially in an open with (possibly) hundreds of Anglers taking part.
Saying that though, the heaviest fish scenario seemingly penalises the lad/lass who hits the jackpot and manages to put themself among the action and bag a load of fish.
Any comp' is fished to NFSA guidelines when it comes to fish size so all fish are "legal"...most in size fish I've caught recently have been kept and they certainly don't go to waste...I either keep them for myself or there's a host of people at my work who will happily take them off me.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why I asked the question...I want to know what peoples general feelings are before deciding whether the Freindly Match is one or the other ...at the moment though I'm erring towards heaviest bag - and like I said, there'd certainly be no waste
cheers for the input lads - keep it comingOoh a new vid!

Tony if you have a heaviest bag comp you will have to make sure every fish weighed in are size which means measuring all the fish!!! hard work if everyone weighs in small stuff mate and you can bet a lot of them will be borderline and could result in argument .. heaviest fish eliminates that and gives everyone a better chance at taking the prize..

I must admit i think heaviest bag is best idea. Like you say you might have a great night with 10+ fish all around 3-4lb and get pipped by a guy or girl with 1 fish for 4lb 1oz. I do agree that it would be a bit of hassle measuring them but still worth it imo. The fish would never go to waste with Tony aroundBest shore caught fish:- Pollock 6lb+ Beadnell, 9lb 8oz Cod Blyth Beach

Heaviest bag comp for me,you could catch 10 fish and your 10th fish could be the heaviest fish however you've probably killed the other 9,couple options could be to increase the minimum Whiting size or have a "no whiting" rule or Codling only comp, only problem is most people go by the NFSA min size rule for comps so you would have to clearly state if you make any personal amendments to the rules on sizes or if you wanted to ommit certain speciesCheers Alan...

heavisest fish v heavisest bag
Simple.....The reason most open comps go for single heavisest fish is to stop cheating.
It goes on and has gone on for years and still does.
As soon as big money is put up along comes the cheats, its so easy for these scumbags to bag together with there mates one bag to the scales.

I divvent kna...I'm just a young pretender...
there's arguments for and against and I can understand both - prob is that tonight I've had a skinful and I can't think straight
I just want everyone to have fun, be merry and have a good craic...technicalities of weights and sizes etc should be for the ones who care too much and those who want to cheat
why do people cheat? it's sh*te - they're only cheating themselves!?
also why are there only so many "contributors" to this site...there are are loads that seemingly only surf for info and never contribute...get your finger out you selfish b*******ds and give something to this site other than gleaning for your own selfish gain...t***ts
yes - I'm drunk - but it's true...there's loads of registered members as well as "guests" who log on and give f***k all to this site...it annoys me to say the least
if any Mods/Jim disagree please PM me and I shall review my comments in the morning
night all
