years ago aboard the Sonia fishing the lanes of shields pier I hooked into a great fish took me over 35 mins to get it up the skipper said its a skate.
when it broke the surface is was a big old ships carpet full of sand and sea life.
I had to sit down my arms felt like lead I was total nackered
the same trip pulled up a set of 3 bulk head lights complete with cable must have been fishing over the local tip.

The most bizarre thing about that fish was we were talking about Haddock about 2 minutes before you caught it!!!

I saw a bream caught off that outfall around 1993/1994, couldn't tell you what type it was though other than it had us puzzled at first.
Caught a Dragonet in Blyth harbour as a kid, never saw one again (beautiful fish) until I was in my 20's and a few were getting caught off Blyth pier one summer.
Didn't catch it but I do remember a dead Sunfish in Seaton Sluice harbour one time too.

I was talking in Norway about double figure cod but didn't have the same luck....
A bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.

I'd guess Smoothhound, they are moving further north with every passing year and there would probably be more caught if enough anglers got out and tried to catch one...

Summer Bream and Hound fishing is about the only thing I miss from living down south but now I'm home I'd never dream of going back
