  • River Tyne and Big Tides

After reading through various catch reports and articles etc, and also hearing this information from a well respected angler or two, I've got the impression that the Tyne will not or doesn't fish well on a big tide. I'm not sure of how much of this is true, but if it is, I would like to no why it doesn't fish well, and also does this apply to the Wear as well???

too much tide run or you can fish over low water and maybe catch a few in the tyne, the wear usually fishes better on a bigger tide not so much of a tide and the bigger tide pushes the fish in.in theory.

the tyne will fish at low even on a big tide like hillbilly say but once it starts running you can not grip the bottom and you either lose your gear or you might as well have cast 10 yard as your line gets dragged that far round, lol it will also fish even on the big tides as you say, when the tide eases just before high, which is about two to an hour and a half before high

I never fish the around the mouth marks..i.e walkway, smiths unless it is a 4.6 or below. Always do well on the smaller tides but not had anything bigger than 4lb from walkway in my life, had days down when i caught over 60fish but nothing of any size.

The river will produce fish on any size tides however the smaller tides do most of the time give better catches.
Jamie your correct the Cleadon club did have some good weights from the river marks on monday night and the tide was big, but i think most of the better bags come from the north side of the river where the dredger was working and this may or may not have had something to do with it.

not a bad session by the sounds of it,were the fish taken further up stream or towards the river mouth?

Like terry(yours truly) says they were probably from the north side, mostly the marks fished are kept hush hush otherwise next time you go theyll be chocka block! I dont personally fish the river, prefer the piers, cliffs and rocks.

whats cleadon clubs boundries or is terry or anybody else trying to put people off and cram my side of the river seems to me the southside has far more marks to fish as the northside ones are getting closed off one by one ie frasers, smiths, the bergen, howdon staiths, davy bank even the old bone yard has a dirty great fence across it now.

hi first of flood always best for me in tyne i do prefer the north side to the south, i find on the bigger tides fish the wide parts of the river mill damm smaller tides were ever you want. one hell of a fishing mark the tyne in my area as well as south shields pier pier area as well

Hi Redrock, not trying to put any body off the south side nor am i trying to cram the north side, i am merely telling it how it is.
The cleadon club do not have any boundaries, they can and do fish anywhere they want, some even have pass keys to private jetty's or know Security who turn a blind eye it seems (at least thats what i have been reliably told).
You have named some of the marks they are fishing.

Is it true that some of the anglers in cleadon club take ladders, grappling hooks and balaclavas with them lol, just a rumour.
