  • Lighter gear - all round rod?

As my thoughts turn to summer fishing I am after a rod that is a bit of a jack of all trades for these tasks - Bass fishing, spinning and lure work and flatty bashing.

Have been looking at heavy spinning and light bass rods but not sure what to go for. Would be most interested in hearing thoughts on 'estuary rods' also. I like the sound of the AFAW estuary and Diawa Supercast Bass if any one has experience of these.

I know I should probably go for a spinning rod and a bass rod but looking for one rod that granted wont excel at any of the tasks (jack of all trades master of none ) but is capable of them all.

Is there a rod that anyone can recommend? Budget under £150(ish)

    Cheers Jon

Greys Seaspin? I love mine, use it for float / occasional spinning & surf work and have used it for flatties and the like with 2-3oz leads (although I now have a more dedicated flatty rod). Casts 1-3oz and is well light enough to hold all day and being 3 piece is a doodle to transport. At 11ft it might be too long though if you wanted to do much plugging (not something I do).

Penn Powerstix Bass for me, 2-4oz, 11'6. Had some nice dab and whiting and loads of flounder, ledgering with 3oz and 4oz, and had some nice pollock and coley with the float, and mackerel on spinners. Probably too long and stiff for plugging, but I don't do any plugging though.

Zziplex bass. Crackin rod plenty of length and power. Buy one second hand and lose no more money if you dont like it and sell it on.
Only down side long tip section can be a pain to transport. 😊
