  • Tyneside Area

Need some advice lads. Next Friday I have some business in Whitley Bay area and after I plan on having a fish in or around Whitley or even a bit further afield. I know my way around fairly well as lived and worked in Newcastle for years for a local contractor so used to getting about down that way. Just never fished any of it as this was before I was bitten by the fishing bug. Thinking back if I had got into this earlier I could have had some cracking sessions in the area. I worked all winter on that new road behind Spanish city the year the snow was really bad. Was snowed off for weeks and didnt know what I was missing. Anyway....

There is no way of telling what the sea state will be but I will be out about 3 hours before high tide and I am looking for advice on marks. Might be tempted by one of the piers or skeers as I am not the greatest distance caster and most my gear is set up for rough ground.

Also, more importantly can anyone recommend a good bait supplier in the area for some quality fresh bait.

This maybe my last session of the winter on the big rods before I put them away until the crabs start to peel (not much happening up my way) so any help in increasing the odds of it being a productive one would be most appreciated

    Cheers Jon

Hi Jon. The fishing has gone a bit quiet round here, just that time of the season again. High water is at 19:20 and where to fish will depend a lot on conditions. Piers could be good but you'll need lo water to fish the best skeers. Don’t bother with the piers at Cullercoats and if you want to join the other anglers on the pier at Tynemouth you’ll have to follow them over a 10ft high set of railings.
If it’s very rough then the north end of Whitley beach is worth a look, if it’s not so rough then Tynemouth or Blyth beaches can fish. The high promenade just along the road you mention can also fish at high tide. Calm seas can be harder to find somewhere to fish at high water there’s a few rock marks or you could find somewhere in the river which can fish in most conditions.
Try Billy’s fishing shop in North Shields for bait. Good luck.
