The new mag 2's r not the same build qlty as the old 525's,the old mods r a lot better reels, but the saltist's r very well made,I've got a bg mod & got to say the build qlty is superb, cast very well(run mine on blocks)allways the option of a magged up saltist. If i had to choose, would have to pick the diawa

I've got a saltist bg30 and I love it. Pulled a lobster in effortlessly the other week. I'm thinking about another reel but can't decide what to go for between saltist 20, 525 or a blue 7ht.
              All the gear, no idea.

Depends what your using it for, I have the 3 of them..I prefer the 7ht mag casting wise but struggles a bit with a decent fish on compared to the saltist and 525..I rarely use the 525 now it takes a back seat over my 7hts and saltists

Good question I have the 30 for the rough stuff with heavy line on it out casts my old 535 easily. I suppose if money is no probs a 20 should do the business. Although I do like my 525 2, lighter and more reliable than the original imho, but probably because its new.

Akios shuttle or daiwa mag for 12-18lb line
Penn 525 mag extra for 18-20lb and a bit of cranking power.
                    Saltist 30, slosh 30 or 535 for 30-40lb line.

Stick to these and you won't go far wrong. Start using light line or heavy line on the wrong reel and your asking for bother.

Sound /good advice that chukka, the blue 7ht's cast well but not designed for the ruff stuff, prone for gears/faults but ideal on clean sand with light mono's.
I like the 525's for light line n for heavy work use the saltist 30 or me slosh 30's can't go wrong wiv e'm
