fishing with bluey and squid

going to use bluey and squid for the 1st time since i was a boy and im not sure how to tie em on properly.

wanting to use em as big baits for cod on 6os or as part of a big cocktail for cod, i was thinking either whole or fillets of bluey on there own and maybe tipped.

and a third of a fillet in a cocktail.... all bound with fine elastic and on a pennel of course

probs fish the squid whole and most likely stuffed with worms or crab, elastic and pennel again.

dose this seem bout right?

any tips welcome.. cheers

Bluey is very big to be using whole from the shore around the north east plus casting distance will be very restricted, I normally cut a strip off and fold a couple of blacks alongside it and wrap in elastic like a sausage then thread on the hook and wrap with a bit more elastic, With squid i only ever really use the heads but dont use often these days

I use a 'baitloader' for bluey fillets, theyre brilliant bits of kit, if youve not used one heres a good video, skip to 6:46 for the bait loader. I bodged my own, using the wire out of a grip lead (until philysafc gave me a better one )

i quite like the thought of a needel for supporting the wraping of worms ect. round the already baited hook.... some times its a pain in the arse when ur making king congs finger sized baits and the snoods drooping on u.

lol i used an xxl paper clip...made loads when there was office downtime...gave quite a few away ..think i needs to make me some more soon,

a lad on here, kevin Collin's, made me a cracking piece of kit,
an ofcut of shampoo bottle, with a notch in 1 end.
slide all your bait's up your line, place your hook in the notch, and apply your elastic,
the flexability of the soft plastic shampoo bottle allow's you 2 just push all the bait out and it come's out like the perfect sausage cocktail of any mix.

A wire coathanger is perfect too.

Would love someone to point me to something that'll skin around a loose mess of mussels or crab with a sort of mesh. Plenty smell coming off it, a few loose bits seeping through the mesh and a hook at the end.
Anyone? Carp mesh for groundbait wouldn't do it as it dissolves.

When I use Mussel, I bait the hooks in the house. I use a 4/0 manta with around 3 bits of mussel and some lug, and bind them up with elastic. I do about 10-15 hooks, put them in a tupperware box then put them in the freezer.

When you take them out fishing you need to keep them frozen so you'd need a cooler box with some ice blocks in; then just tie them onto the hooklength as you need them. They defrost pretty quickly when they're in the water so they release a lot of scent. Ive had a lot of codling, rockling and coley with these; mainly around marsden.

get your bait put it along side your hook and wrap in elastic, make sure you have plenty point showing. clip it down and whack it

Got to agree with scaley,just lay along side your other bait or bait's n whip it all together with fine elastic,the fine works better as it beds in an holds your bait firmly on the hook,the heavy tends to unwind itself
