Whats peoples thoughts and experiences with these reels just got one as part of a deal wondering whether to keep it or get shot of it

Great retrieve and super for the boat , if ya rock fishing ok but crap for distance casting . Some people like them tho

Bought a 20 myself and got another as part of a rod purchase deal.
Some say that the spool isn't big enough but 170yds of 18lb line is more than I can cast anyway right now. Put braid on it and it'll hold enough to cast a lot further, if you think you're able to.

I have no problem with these reels. I'm a naturally curious sort of bloke and I stripped one down to see inside them.
All the parts are quality metals, seem strong enough for the job and so far they've both done me well enough.

For what's worth I'd put them on a standing with my Akios 656 for quality and ease of use, though the Akios only has centrifugal overrun braking against the magnetic of the Okuma.

Just to rubbish something because it hasn't got as big a following as other better known makes is pointless.

Only actual claims of breakages or poor workmanship can contribute any worthwhile argument against them and in my limited experience they are fine. It's surprising how many people who come on knocking them tell 2nd hand stories of "my mate had one" etc.

Spot On Mate - Use mine as a back up whenever required or for short lobbing from the piers - never had a bit of bother and as you have said they are well put together. A canny reel for the money

Just for the record, when i took mine out on a Century Kompressor SS using 15lb main line and a 6oz lead it cast as well as the Akios, as far as distance goes.

Mine (all of them) have the level-wind as I find it easier for reeling in and preventing bunching up at one end of the spool which can result in the most God-awful mess. I know the purists say no level-wind but I'm no power caster and all I need is 100 yds mostly with ease of use.

I hear all the comments about distance taking a knock when using level-wind and I readily accept it as any restriction on free movement of the reel will prevent the maximum distance, however has anyone got any proven record of how far short a level-wind will allow. I suspect it isn't as much as people might suggest.
Best record of that would be an average of 5 lobs of a lead with and without level-wind using exactly the same gear.

i have the 20 without the level wind and its a cracking little reel its great for casting and easily controlled with the magnetic brake... the only problem i found that is when using low diameter lines there is a chance of the line getting trapped between the spool and frame...

with a 5yr warranty on them you cant go wrong..mine is still going strong after 4 yr..no problems but just a little corrosion on the reel foot...

I had the 30 non level wind. From the 1st cast to the last I had nothing but bother it nested every single time I let loose of the spool. Eventually I got sick and didn't use it for a while. After a few month of sitting in the shed I took it out and when I come to use it every cast the handle flipped back over knocking the reel back into gear sending the lead and rod down swinging the lead into my knees. I decided to contact svendsen sport and they refunded the cost of the reel through the help of veals tackle. I personally wouldn't use again

My son has used the CS20 for the last few years and loves it, not sure why there is an argument that it doesn't hold much line, most people can't cast 200yards, even if you think you can.

After about a year and half a washer or spring snapped and it was doing what you describe Davy, so I contacted Okuma and they put me in touch with there reel repair guy John Wordsworth. I think it cost me £10 plus £6 for the delivery and its good as new again, great little reels for the buck.

There is no 5 year warranty mate, the 5 year warranty Okuma were originally offering ended in 2009, so unless the reel was purchased in 08/09 and the purchaser has proof of purchase with the 5 year warranty proof, it doesn't stand.

Exactly, Each to their own with regards to reels, Always going to be people like them and others dont

didnt know that had stopped... still cant grumble if it fell to bits today... had it 4 seasons ..so works out at about £15 a season.... well satisfied
