  • Getting a Ron Thompson reelseat off?

I had the reel seat on my axellerator about 2 foot up, I tried moving it down but it's stuck fast about a foot from the bottom, now I just want it off, so I can put an Abu griplock on. Can anyone tell me how to get it off? The top gripper loosens a bit but the bottom one isn't budging

Put a pic up mate so we can see what you mean.most times a bit of heat of a heat gun does the trick but if it's glued then it may need cut off(carefully mind) but get a pic up first might be a simple solution.

Think it seems as though it is 1 off those big hideous reelseats what you used to get on the rt s sometimes some neat fairy liquid poured on the top collars seeps down and makes it a bit easier if all else fails abd your not bothered about the seat cut it off with a hacksaw making a spiral cut going easy not to cut into the blank you might struggle to get a abu grip to fit the rt if I.m not mistaken

You need a 28mm griplok reel seat mate, even so, I couldnt get the one I bought far enough down the blank to suit my casting style so I bought a fuji flat plate type seat and two coasters. Works a treat, the RT reel seats are a pile of crap at the best of times.

        cheers,

        aa.

Thats the one Dale, It will fit onto the Axcellerator but only up to a certain point, (which wasnt suitable for my casting style), its far better with the Fuji plate and coasters.

            Cheers,

            aa.

Cheers Paul, sorted now, dripped washing up liquid into it and left it for bit, came off no bother. Just need to find a better reel seat to put on it now.

I got a 27.8mm Abu griplock in Hebburn Reelsport yesterday. It doesn't fit on my axellerator; I slid it on from the top, it just goes over the shrink rap but then doesn't go any further down.

To be honest I wanted a new reel seat for the axe because the standard one gets stuck, so it isnt easy to move when i want to move it - i prefer it higher up for lobbing off the cliffs then down to help with casting distance when Im fishing cleaner ground, but now I've got the icon match for clean ground so I'll just put the standard RT reel seat back on the axe and leave it in position.

The 27.8 griplock fits perfectly on the icon match.

The 30 mm is too big for my axe, the 27.8 is fine.

                      cheers.
