Am really miffed that my snoods seem to tangle with my main line on every cast.
Even when using cascade swivels they cast fine but when I haul in later on they're all entwined on the main line.
I'm getting some good knocks that I just can't connect with probably due to the hook being up against the main line.

This is how I build my rigs at present. Main line on spool is 20 mono. And a spare spool is soon to be filled with 30lb braid.
Leader is 60lb mono.
Snoods are 15 lb and the rotten bottom line on release from the leader is 12lb.

The snood lengths are between 18" and 2'

Would I right in thinking that 15 lb snoods are too thin and will be more likely to tangle. If so, bearing in mind that I do a fair bit of flattie fishing where smaller line strength is needed what suggestions do you have?

I thought the snood strength was supposed to be less than the main line strength to prevent large main line loss in the event of a non recoverable snag.
ie main line of say 30lb would be insufficient to hold against a 50 lb snood if it got stuck.

I have some 70lb braid on the way though so could adopt this recommendation for that without fear of main line loss.

Would the diameter of the suggested snood be too thick for sensitive flatties though. The hooks I've been recommended are size 6 Kamasan crab hook, offset shank.

The hooks I've been recommended are size 6 Kamasan crab hook, offset shank.

I've had flatties on everything up to a manta 4/0.

I use 50lb on all rigs even flattie rigs and not stop catching plaice in the summer and not usually have any problem unless a hag fish or eel takes my bait

I make my rig & hook lengths from the same cheap 50 lb clear mono, never get tangles, Have the odd one when the sea is rough/turbulent. Don't need expensive mono.

Like the lads have said your hook snood is way too light. I'm not quite as full on as Waco but almost all my rigs are made with 30lb black amnesia for the hook length; the only exception are my rough ground rigs where I will use 50lb to ensure the hook will bend out of any snags

Missed the bit about hooks. Size 6? Even when delibertely targetting Sole I only ever went down to a size 4, and even then I've had more Sole on size 1 hooks and general scratching rigs and even one on a 4/0 Big Mouth Extra fishing for cod down at Pagham.

My general flatty rigs targetting Dab and Flounder use size 1 or 1/0, for Pliace I generally don't go below 1/0 as they like a big bait in my experience. And like with the Sole, I've had stacks of Dab and Flounder on 4/0s and big baits meant for cod.
