Recently started up beach fishing & was hoping to find an old dc6 or diawa whisker but struggled to find either I did however find an old diawa Paul Kerry supercast in a bit of a state for £125 so decided to start with a budget rod & decided on a sonik sk3 xtr rough ground. And fish with a slosh 30
Just can't seem to cast very far anymore, is it the rod to blame or my old age?
slosh 30 quailty reel sonik only decent rod i read about is the sk4 not to sure about yours think sonik have a life time replacment so if it snaps just take it bk if u fish just the rocks u wont have to cast that far ideal set for a starter if u fish clean or mixed some times get a slosh 20 penn 525 all cracking reels the slosh 30 can cast a fair way even with thicker lines on and no shocker practise casting takes time if u have a new rod and reel
I think it'll be a backup rod as soon as I can afford or find a decent alternative, I'm happy enough on pier or rock marks as you say but struggle to get anywhere near where I'd like on the beach
just had a look on line the sonik sk3 xtr has some decent reviews stick with it mate its your bait that counts as i said try thinner line on your slosh or take the blocks out the slosh 30 can cast realy well rocks or beach
I've used a Slosh 30 and Sonik SK3 for a couple of years and they work well enough for me. I know they don't cast as far as the top quality rods, but I use it all the time from the beach with no problems. I am using it again tomorrow, either the Glass Centre, or the Hall beach at Seaham if the wind is ok.
Ive got a sonic sk3 and struggled at first to get any distance. I've teamed it up with an akios 656 ctm recently and can get a good distance now. Wouldn't like to say how far coz im not good a judging distance but it fair emptys the spool. like the man says lessons and practice.
Imo slosh 30's are only useful for short lobs, if you're looking for distance with a slosh 30 you'll not get it, try going for a 525 mag or even a fathom 15, drop the fathom down to 3-4 break blocks at first and once you're comfortable with the reel drop it down to two, flying machines.....
Had a try today with a zziplex zeteque paired with a sl20sh & casting into a headwind I'm getting prob 50% further than my sonik rod
So it's either my sl30 with brand new 25lb line (maxima)
Or the rod, my money is on the rod
But gonna hang onto the sonik & see if I can find myself a zziplex at a good price
Gonna give the sonik a good thrash tomorrow on Blyth beach with a mates 7000c see if I get anywhere

Dont listen to the crap about this rod and that rod !
Learn to use the rod you have, any top caster will tell you there is little between
rods, its how you use them.
Those that knock rods, just cant bend em.

If its got t1ts or tyres, its gonna be trouble.
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem

One things for sure, Sonik are great on customer service.
I have an SKS which lost a ring inner after a single day.
Called them and even though I can't produce a receipt they tell me just to drop it in to them in Blyth. They'll lend me a rod to carry on fishing while they repair the ring at a cost of a fiver.
By the way, losing ring inners is something that's really pi$$ing me off.
All I have going through them is the usual tidy Albright knot between 15lb mono to 60lb leader.
Surely I can't be the only one to suffer damage like this or am I doing something wrong. 3 rods have been damaged this way over the last 3 months.
Told the missus I was going on a diet. I'd only eat what I caught
One tackle shop told me the rods & after care service from sonik is brilliant
But be careful with dropping or knocking the rings as they aren't the best in the world
