Last two or three trips I have had out on the rocky headlands of Eyemouth I have found quite a few empty small edible crab shells left by seagulls.

I have been fishing with lug, squid, mussel and fish (mackerel and bluey) and have not had a bite in about 10 hours worth of fishing in various conditions and tide times. Well apart from a guillemot that tried to get a bluey head off my hook!

The crab shells got me thinking that if there are cod about they may be targeting crab so cart might be worth a try. Can I make cart at this time of year?

I am basing this question on what I have read about coral content being important and that I think at this time of year there is little/ no coral in the hens. Correct me if I am wrong. Anyone had experience of cart you can buy from online bait companies in term of quality?

I fished eyemouth a month or so back and used cart and pretty much the first 5 or so casts i had good fish on but lost the first 4 in snags...my mate was using yellows and wasnt getting the bites i was on cart so yes its def worth using there, Not much if any coral in them now but the brown meat will still work, I have used the frozen sticks from tackle shops and its nowhere near as good as home made cart

I had a lot if wasted trips fishing Eyemouth years back(poss15-20)
Then one day spoke to a load of scuba divers who told me about the sea bottom less than 50 yards from the rock edge the ground was rough with rocky gullies seaweed & plenty of cover for sandeels & small fish etc. Beyond that mark it was more sandy stretches with the odd patch of cover weeds etc.
The following weekend I had a change of tactics......light rod with ragworm/mackerel & sandeels you occasionally caught cod if you managed to get past the pollock some of which were double figure fish, I also done short casts with beach rod, peeler crab / squid done the damage with my biggest ever beach/rock cod which weighed in at 14lb
Sadly I havnt fished since & do always think of a return up there

I used to fish a rock mark walk through the caravan site and down the bank onto the rocks & low tide you can jump over the gap & onto another rock with a good depth of water & lots of pollock

So it is still worth making my own cart at this time of year (minus coral)?

I fished the high rock ledges on the seaward side just before you get down onto Hairy Ness on Friday. Sounds like you were enjoying some summer time fishing Tony.

I read your catch report a while back Outkast. Fished cart off the red rocks by the sound of it. I have had a few fish off there in past few weeks, most on bluey. Last few trips out though no bait seems to be getting any interest. Only fish caught was a sea scorpion

That mark sounds like Hairy Ness.

I've always wondered what it was called,
Brilliant place, and yes it was summer fishing
The pollock were what got me into spinning I was determined to get big fish
Most the time I came home with no memories to reminisce over
But the time I caught fish was possibly a one off but I can still remember it like yesterday
Does it still get regular fish?
It's got me itching to head up there now
