Ones I caught were less than half pound in weight too small to keep
But I agree they do taste nice

Every bait has its day most fish seem to get fixated on what's going at that location l feel more confident with 50 / 50 live, frozen l would use all frozen if l was just having a dangling session, and have caught on it, an example back in the seventies l fished Hendon and cliffs towards Ryhope 3 to 4 times a week when the fish were on, lug was the killer when you knocked them on the head they coughed up green and black lug, you could put it back on the hook which I did many a time mussel was second choice seen guy's fishing next to me with great ragworm not a touch give them a couple of lug and they'd catch next cast that's not coincidence not saying you won't catch fish there on other baits, eg. flatfish & coalies, but I am talking about cod, that's my experience at this location anglers that regularly fish an area will have a good idea what the fish want so ask most will help you, when I fished that area years ago if there was any sea on you could be in to double numbers of fish not generally big fish 2lb + with the odd one up to 5lb great sport, don't know if anyone has experienced this but I was at the Lane and there was a big sea crashing over the top the ground was littered with big black lug, heaven.
