Hi, I'm thinking of heading up to Gairloch in Scotland sometime in September this year. Anyone on here had any experience of shore fishing there. Is it any good ? Any info' about marks, bait etc will be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.

Spend most holidays in this area, but my fishing has been a bit random. Pier good on occasions for mackerel, so are boat trips. From pier wind in quick or the resident seals will help themselves. LRF of pier is really good fun, also lots of puddler Coalies to keep the kids quiet.
I have seen bass caught from Firemoor beach (Loch Ewe) and it is supposed to be good for flatties, but no luck for me.
At Mellon Udrigle have had codling to 2lb on tiny hokkai rigs when trying for mackerel from an inflatable dingy in the middle of the bay, they seem to prefer the rough weedy bits not the clean sand. I have also seen LSDs caught from boats just off Laide jetty but not me.
I intend to do a little more serious fishing this year so may have more info later in the year!

Just another thought. The number of seals, harbour porpoise, minke whales and occasional dolphins (2 were resident a couple of years ago) in Gairloch area would suggest good stocks of fish. When flat calm there are often may fish boils on the surface indicating bait fish being predated by larger fish

I’ve not fished that far north in Scotland but you’ll pass Loch Carron on the way. It’s a deep water loch with the usual potential. There’s also some good marks on the north side of the Applecross peninsula just south of Gariloch.
You could always try for the sea trout around Loch Maree and Loch Ewe.

          Take some midge repellent.

The Firth of Clyde and adjoining sea lochs (Gairloch and Loch Long)have been poor for 30 years now.
Mackeral are the only fish in any numbers now. There is the odd "rare" Codling with a few LSD,s and Flounders.

Is it the Gare Loch on the Clyde, or Gairloch in Wester Ross you are going to?

Hi, It's Gairloch in Wester Ross where I was thinking of travelling to. Mainly thinking of spinning and float fishing from rocks for Pollack etc, but also taking a sal****er fly rod.
                Cheers.

Ah OK, sorry I can't help with that area.

I love that if you type salt water as one word the auto check bans it. Hilarious!

Hope you have a good holiday mate.

OK, Thanks for your replies, looking at Loch Ewe as well now. Looks very "fishy", but accommodation seems quite expensive for September.
