Thought i'd post this in this section, but what i have to say is relevant to boat fishing aswell as freshwater, both fly and coarse.
As some of you may or may not know my wife is chinese, and because of the good business opportunities between here and the far east and also the added luxury of my wife working for a shipping company we decided to start importing some bits and bobs to sell, this was mainly silk purses,scarves etc for small amounts of money, just as a hobby really and earning a little bit of money in the meantime, because of my interst in fishing my wife said i should look at fishing tackle and think about moving into that area.
First thing what sprung to my mind was " cheap tat" speedily made and cheap and nasty, but after looking into this further and recieving samples of some of the items i was very impressed with some of the products they were producing.

I would like to know what the general consensus is from you lot as regards imported tackle,whether you would try some of it, or would you tend to stick to tried and tested brands.
This tackle would be very reasonably priced and would be able to compete against some of the well known brands.

swivels,hooks,jellyworms,shads etc etc

I have many pictures of the items, if any one is curious giz a shout, allthough i understand pictures dont really do a product justice, i will also be loaning a few bits and bobs out for people to try...

I prefer tried and tested for the likes of rods and reels but as far as hooks swivels etc go if its cheap and works well enough then it gets the thumbs up from me ..good luck with it mate

I understand fully as regards the rods and reels, i would be exactly the same.
This is why i would like to loan some of the rods and reels out for people to test.

personally If I was buying rods/reels, I'd be going out there to do the deal, there's a lot of dross in between the better stuff.

I've had a few samples of reels and a couple of fly rods and they've not been up to much to be honest, plus that the fact that everyone and there dog seems to be flogging chinese imported gear on ebay these days, I'd reckon you have your work cut out. I'd concentrate on one thing, get a good deal and hammer them, rather than try bits of all sorts

best/most reliable thing I've found to import is sets of lures - hokkais/daylites and such like, can't go too far wrong with them really.

got some interesting looking jelly things a while back, sandeel/jellyworms/shads etc but not had chance to give them a try proper, they look the business though. next thing I might try is some hooks - around $4 for 10,000 1/0 aberdeens! got to be worth a punt at that price

Have also thought about maybe some flies at some point - to resell. seen a few samples and they are not too bad, but the bonus is they are small, very light and can just be posted to you, missing out a lot of the hassles of commercial shipping.

I'll just say ive done all my homework on this for the last few months, this was the last stretch as i was concerned,{asking the opinions of fisherman}ive done all the sums, so i know what can make money and what is a bit of a risk.

The jellyworms and shads were something i had put top of my list due to the minimal outlay and the ease in shipping.

Ive looked at the flies, but the 2 companies ive been dealing with only have a limited selection, but it is something ive looked at.

Hooks are cheap and easy to ship.



The baitrunner reel im gonna do is a nice bit of kit, i recently bought 2 shakespeare baitrunners for 25 quid a pop, but these reels from china are far superior to the shakespeare i got , in build quality and the general feeling of the reel is much better.

Im currently waiting on a shipment of items, when they arrive ill be looking for people to try them out for me. So anyone who uses a baitrunner, carp/pike fishing mainly giz a shout.

I've bought MP3 players and PC components from China, Malaysia etc and I've had no problems...they work just fine and the quality is good too

The only reason countries such as China can produce goods so cheaply is because of the workforce (don't worry I'm not going to rant about ethics )

i say do it mate as if you cant sell them on here you could sell them on ebay i buy all my gear off ebay as its cheap as chips (100 packets of cod and macky rigs with jellys, feathers, and other things on them for Ł44.99 all for boat fishing) brand was max performance works out at 45p each instead of Ł1.50 or so

can you get 8 mm beads for sinkermaking and tail loops ect wires

I would have thought rig making accesories, hooks and daylights would be a far better bet than heavyweight stuff such as rods and reels.

I know during my stint in Malasia that tackle was cheep...some good some bad...but to concentrate on "consumables" makes far better sense as its an ongoing income rather than a one off sale.

If you get the quality right on consumable you will make a regular income .

I have spoken to Stew about this and he has assured me he will not be selling any of his goods on NESA. The original post was only for people to try the gear and not for him to sell it.

NESA has never allowed dealers to sell their goods on here and never will. It causes too many problems.

I would also say consumables would be your best bet mate. Especially daylights, hokkais as if they were really cheap it wouldnt hurt the bank if you only used each set once.

I would also gladly test any gear

Those jelly things and lures that mark got in huge quantities for about 4p look the absolute biz. Some of them are works of art - I ate a few by accident as well (they looked like sandeels and I do like a sandeel milkshake )

Good fantastic and obscenely cheap jellys, well impressed. Not so sure about the regime we're dealing with and who the profits go to but it's a fishing thing so rock on.
