  • Safe night fishing marks

    Hi guys,

Thinking of trying a but of night fishing next time I'm in the north east. Determined to catch a good sized cod.

My only worry is safety ie getting mugged! Am I worrying too much or is this a genuine issue? Anyone know of any good marks for a beginner who wants to have a dabble with night fishing? Cheers James

I've never heard of any1 getting mugged when fishing mate, I'm in hartlepool n pretty much everywhere I fish is out the way of nightime activity, you will either be on your own or there will be other anglers who won't be bothering you. The way the north east has been fishing lately I very much doubt you will be at a mark by yourself.

        Cheers for the info guys.

Normally fish glass centre, rathouse and walkway on the Tyne - will those be alright?

I'll have a filleting knife so might be one of those crocodile Dundee moments : "you call THAT a knife?!"...

One thing to please take into account is that you might be a good angler but areas do look different at night so for safety sake go with someone with you or who knows the area especially if you go to one of the beach or rock marks ATB best and safe good fishing

Them muggings recent like Greg? The only thing like that I've heard of was a smack head bullying kids on their way macky bashing on the jetty years ago. Touch wood I'm never in a situation like that but I can't understand how men armed with filleting/ baiting knives, priests n big bags of lead can have their gear taken away by idiots. No disrespect to any1 that it has happened to because every situation is different. If you must go fishing on your own, go to a popular mark.

I don't imagine many 'muggers' will hang around fishing marks? I always think its a lot safer being alone on a deserted beach at 3am in the morning than it is being in the middle of the toon at 3am in the morning!

It was a couple of months back couple of lads I no were fishing the heugh they'd been there a couple of hours
When a few chavs went on the chavs herd my mates talking and new they aren't from pool so tried to make them leave any way cut a long storie short as they were packing up one of the chavs grabed my mates rod and tried to take off with it however my mate had a fileting knife and thretend him
End result rod back and a bad name for the pool bit sad really as I used to love fishing pool as a kid but wouldn't feel safe at night on me own

You're worrying about nowt mate. It's not the Wild West (or east).

Only safety thing I'd worry about is the sea or some eejit casting over your heads never experienced or heard of a single angler having problems with crime other than the occasional screwed car that can happen anywhere. I fish by myself, almost always at night.

                    Mind I am 6 4 and 16 stone like.......

FFS man. Name Me one attack by a foreigner or asylum seeker on an angler. You can't can you. Cos if there is any or if any car is ever screwed its a local scrote not someone who just happens to talk a little different

Ill agree with Robbo there like... There's quite a few poles fish Middleton pier n although they like a undersized fish or 2,can be a little bit messy and very hard to understand, they are not trouble makers. I'd never let anything like that stop me fishing a certain mark... Idiots are everywhere and could be at your favourite spot next!

best to fish with a m8 or if you turn up on ya own there will be other lads on the rat house or the pier just start to chat to them they don't bite.
I have always found the lads in sunderland and shields and up into Northumberland to b spot on with any help you need or just some good crack.
fishing at night safety has to be a priority.
