  • Marsden Grotto steps

Just had a run down Marsden, the steps at the Grotto are closed as from today. There's a notice up saying going to be closed for 21 days for maintenance. Also looks like the lift is out of action for the same period.
Only way down onto Marsden beach now is the steps beside the roundabout.
Anyone going down who doesn't know the beach be careful if you go along to the pub end of as on a big tide you might not get back along to the steps as the water comes right up to the base of the cliffs in the middle of the beach.

Sea is flat, just in case anyone was wondering

There was an article on the news on Tuesday, saying the Grotto pub had been ordered to close, didn't say what for though. Was wondering if its anything to do with the cliff erosion?

Davey ,it's due to lack of access etc in case of fire I believe ,and nice one Mick A ,good advice ,that's what the site is all about mate.

            Marsden.

I went down to the beach one day with the missus and the bairn. Saw it was made up of pebbles and wondered if anyone fished here. It looks a good spot, but do you catch anything and is tackle loss high.

            Mick.

Cannot be true Closing this unique pub down because of fire regs! If the fire starts outside get in the lift. If it starts inside get in The Sea. If it starts raining down on you from the sky then check your watch - It's Judgement Time

There are loads of good shots off Marsden beach and it's a beautiful place to boot. I've never had any luck there as I've just fished it on spec and am a bit rubbish anyway, but the lads that know it well have had some good fish from there over the years and continue to do so.

its closed coz the steps need renewing and the grotto is suppose to pay for them 2 be renewed, supposedly the council hav nothing to do with the steps so the pubs closed till they renew the steps for public safety and access
                    Always got it!
