Seriously though, a licence could potentially sort a few problems out...but as to getting rid of all the plums, it won't do that...there's a lot of "proper" Anglers who act with the same attitude as the charvers

very true,if they kept them lot out we would have fish in our waters, then people wouldnt mind paying a licence

Also i think that if a licence comes into play we still wont get bog all help with our waters to get rid of EU boats (ships)and still wont be able to have our say as i think this is just another way for the goverment to rip the eyes out of more people

ive bought a coarse/trout fishing licence for the last 9 yrs poss longer, and i aint seen any benifits up north, seems like all the cash from it goes down south (N Yorkshire and Down the way)

also policing is gonna be a very big problem with this i think,as the coastline is massive as we all know

think ill see what benifits we are meant to get out of this licence before i decide to get one

I know there was talk of extra construction ,piers or jettys etc . I'm of mixed oppinion about the whole thing I'd love to see the gobby, messy types ( we all know the type that give us a bad name ) sorted out although as mentioned policing would be a nightmare .
My other gut feeling tells me that the government now realise how many sea anglers that this country has .... so why not tax them ....... look at 4x4 cars taxed because they're fuel guzzelers ...erm I don't think so .....as a lot of them are only used for school runs etc ... however they just happen to be in the most popular and up and coming segment of the automotive industry it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work that one out eh .
Sorry to sound cynical , but I am .

Well when it comes to areas that are frequently abbused then we're talking rivers and piers ( mostly ) ,obviously you have marks like Cullernose and the like that are the same but it would be a good place for the bailiffs to start ... can of worms I know ...... excuse the pun ....also I like nothing better than seeing younguns getting into the sport ,lost count of the ammount of times I've given stuff to them ,rigs ,leads ,bait etc etc and I'd hate to think that a licence will put some off which I suppose will happen , again mixed feelings .

Lets be honest about the licence. Very few of us want to pay but if the fishing improves, etc., etc, then it would be worth it. there are plenty of Angling organisations, National and International but they have not made much impresions on the government or the EU committees. If we allowed the fishing boats to land ALL they catch and limit the days at sea, this would stop the unneccessary throw back of dead fish. It would be in their own interests to target the most profitable fish but if they do not catch it - tough. At least once the boat is full they have to return to port. they will earn something but small fish or the less profitable ones would help the running costs. It might sound a bit silly but think that over 8 THOUSAND tonnes of fish was returned last year, mostly dead. That is an awful lot of prime as well as undersized that could have grown bigger. Also how about a 3 mile /5 mile or even the old 12 mile limit to restrict other EU boats from fishing our waters. I want solid guarantees of action before I part with my hard earned cash.

I doubt much will be done with the commercial boats to be honest , it would have been done by now if that was the case ,no I mean it would have been done years ago .

Yes Steve, I agree but the scientific evidence is there and pressure is on to limit the quota's. If they do not do something very soon there will be no point in a licence as there will be nothing to catch, or worth catching. We would be tiddler bashing like the French. Size 20 hooks for the mini species.!
