  • Rat today.

Well it was a toss up today lads.
    The resevoir or the Rat.
Needed to pick something up at work so as the Rats past Chester-Le-Street thought i,d go there.
Went to Alans in annfield Plain for some bait. As i stood got talking to a lad who had been fishing up the Derwent a couple of days back. Got his eight fish and heaviest was a 4 1/2 pound trout.
Well i thought no crack on. I was looking forward to trying the new Abu rod with my Penn Mag Extra even if it was mostly casting practice.
Got to the rat and it was a lovely day. thought there must be Mackeral on the Roker pier, could see a few off the end.
Set the gear up. Hit a problem. The reel seat still has,nt came so i was using the coasters off my old Abu rod. They did,nt fit!.
Big rod and raffler went back in the bags.
Used my small spinning rod with rag and i caught some very small whiteys. Thee was loads of baby ones getting caught.
I had a couple of hours in the sun then drove home. On the way spoke to a bloke coming off Roker there was nowt doing there not even Macky just a couple of Coalies.
Went home in the rush hour and was wishing i had gone up the road to Derwent. Could have came home for tea and went back for a couple of hours. Never mind.

I had a similar problem last friday. Took out 2 different rod sections and had to use my spinner with light braid. Caught 20 odd coalies, only smallish but still put up a good fight on the light gear. Really enjoyable way to fish

Guess who got two reel seats in the post. One on rod now and raring to go. Returned the other.
It will be interesting so see just what its like. Seems ok.
