  • Bloody Jet Skis!

What started out as a nice day turned sour later when a prat on a Jet Ski decided to blast past the beach at about 50 yards out and snared my line and dragged my rod and reel into the sea off the beach south of the caravan park at sandy bay!

Till then there was a load of bites and a load of flounders taking rag tipped with squid and made a nice day out.

I managed to retreive the rod and reel eventually and after stripping it down and cleaning and re-lubing the reel seems OK and the rod suffered no damage but it really made my blood boil when this twonk had all the sea to fart about in and decideds to take the preverbial urine and comes in far too close.

The same Jet Ski forced a family who were enjoying the beach and were swimming to leave the water due to his anticts as the parents were concerned about the close proximity in which the rider was to the Children in the water.

I was under the illusion that there is a limit to which these things were allowed off the beaches for just such reasons?

I was fishing just north of a estuary and there was a whole beach to the south with nobody fishing and yet on the north side there was myself my bro in law and nephew all fishing with another 6 anglers easy and he still insisted on taking the pee comming up the north end and not bothering using the empty south beach!

Anyone else had problems with these idiots?

    Zeb

Hi Zeb,they should go three mile off to play. or they should have big registration marks / numbers / letters on them so as they could be monitored. after saying that it's only a minority that are numpty's, its the same in any sport including ours.

      Sundays at shields..its hell.

Always about 7 of them being fools.

I am just waiting for the day they go past my 30lb briad that i use from the shore, it will be like cheese wire if i hold onto my rod for more than a second.

Just pray no one gets killed just hurt abit so that they will not do it again.

we get the same trouble at saltburn pier the jet skis have miles of beach to play on but insist on coming well within casting range or even under the pier pulling a friend on water skis, not so long ago a sml inflatible rib decided to do it and caught my mates line nearly pulling his rod in, he had to stop when his outboard stopped becoz it his lead was wrapped round his propeller. and then theres the surfers that ignore the sign postsand just sit on there boards doing nowt 40 yrs from pier and play war when leads are almost hitting them, they can move but us anglers cant always.

A pack of them were off Tynemouth Pier the other Sunday - total idiots. Tearing around the blind corner into the River mouth at full tilt, no more than 5 meters off shore.

              Welcome to NESA Derek.

Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them.

sorry but i have to stick up for the surfers on this one! we dont get alot of good ground swell in the north east so when it comes we will surf it anywhere. at the same time though i would never surf in an anglers cast, my wet suite cost far to much to have 4/0 hooks ripping into it not to mention the damage a 5oz lead would do to my board, oh yeah then there's the personal safty issues
Happy to help, Keen to learn!

least u know what damage can be done with hooks and sinkers and have the decency and respect to keep a safe distance from anglers and to be fair im not moaning about all surfers or jet skiers, its just those who are blatantly doing it to annoy anglers and putting themselves in danger. i certainly dont want to hook into a surfer or hit one with a 5oz lead doin a 100mph.

                  cheers neil
