One of my best friends hung himself it was a very very sad time hd was a tortured soul im afraid ...... never got over losing his mum ....... after the initial anger and annoyance at what he had done leaving family loved ones friends ect I.e. selfishness. ...... we also realised that one of the hardest things in the world must be to take your own life ..... so both sides have a very valid point there

Winton you just said your self man someone is always worse off and that poor lad obviously was far worse off than you.imo nothing selfish about it.. I to have depression, and have also had VERY low times it still is a taboo subject and people who have not had a loved one with it or suffered from it themselves are very much in the dark about understanding it

There's mental problems and mental problems on a different level, You dont know whats going through peoples minds, Some people can deal with mental problems and others cant, Everyone is different..some weak some strong and it must take one hell of a brave person to take their own life thats for sure, Yes i agree its a cowards way out for the likes of fred west and other killers but not the average joe

Suffered with depression for years and still take medication for it. I have no shame in admiting that or admiting I've been in a very bad place at times. I see both points but unless you've been there yourself who are you to say its cowardly ? It has to be the most misunderstood illness out there and ignorant people who know nothing about it need not say a word ! I too have lost a mate through it so those who feel the need to mock other peoples misfortunes need to rap up.

got a phone call from my mam one night 8 years ago telling me that she thinks my brother who suffered from terrible depression was dead in his bed, rushed around mams house ran upstairs and started to give him mouth to mouth and pumping his heart don't know how long i was doing this for but my wife pulled me off him saying he,s gone he,s gone, totally devastated my family and me that's what suicide does breaks the hearts of the living,so i think its time now to close this post.

All valid points lads it takes more courage to overcome your afflictions rather than give up in my opinion i just dont agree with taking u own life i know a lad killed himself a year back 20 year old 2 kids hung himself over a woman i just find that if people with far worse afflictions dont give up and continue to overcome. Day to day ****e we all endoure at some point in life like me granny used to say you never know what a new day may bring

Was thinking the same thu there mate... Must have been the guts from a monster catch to prevent the lads getting out! Either than or it's the typical "wrong type of guts on the line" haha.

It does my head in though... Seriously how hard is it to lob them into the sea?

I deal with people with mental health issues everyday at work and agree that some people are more able to deal with issues than others. Medication doesn't seem to help a great deal in a lot of cases as already mentioned. A lot of people are dealing with mental health issues and can lead a day to day normal life. I don't agree with suicide (wife's father took his life) and I can say the effect on the remaining family and friends is truly devastating but I can't imagine the size of the balls needed to do it...
