  • Amble pier.

After a bit of advice when fishing the pier. We fished it last night using pennels, pulley pennels, running ledgers and 1 hook flapper rigs. this brought 2 small fish in two hours using rag, lug, blacks, squid and mussels. should we of had any other baits? or tried any different rigs? We generally fish the tyne and south shields pier so these rigs and baits work well. thanks in advance.

    Hi Richy.
I use a rag/lug/cocktail tipped off with a bit of squid on the end of the hook, (making sure that the squid doesnt mask the hook point), and its worked for me in the past. I havent fished from the pier for a while preferring to fish off the beaches instead mate. Hope this helps.

    cheers,

    aa.

don't think its your rigs, they should be fine mate, when its like that you should mix things up a bit, have a cast with rag or lug on their own, ragworm fishes great there and I would always use razor there.

I fish Amble pier at least twice a month with my granddaughter and we always use a two hook flapper rig, with 2/0 aberdeen hooks. We have found that lug or rag tipped with thin strips of mackerel outfish any other bait. On our last session we had several size flounders along with codling to 2 1/4lb and loads of small stuff. We rarely fish towards the end, usually setting up at the second or third bench. Casting distance doesn`t seem to matter too much as the fish can be quite close in. Hope this is of some help for your next trip there.

If your after the bigger fish wait till there is a sea running. Other than that its always been a good scratching mark for the smaller stuff
