  • Summer in Whitley Bay

So we have decided to take a positive step and book a caravan holiday for early July, as if we don't do it now, the cheap Daily Mail deals will be gone!! Hopefully Lynn will have recovered and all will go as planned.

We have been to Eyemouth, Newbigging, Blyth, Crimdon Dene, Filey, Scarborough and Withernsea, so now we want a wee change, so thinking of Whitley Bay. This will enable us to get out with Geoff and Duncan on the new Warlord out of Amble, Alan on the new JFK from the Tyne and our good mate Jim on Northstar from Hartlepool.

I had a look online but "WhitleyBayonline" isn't working! We would like a few ideas for good restaurants nearby as it's Lynn's birthday while we are there. Also Lynn wonders if there is a pier or the like nearby for her favourite Mackerel and I would love a wee idea of where I might get a shore Cod, as I think my last sized one was Eyemouth 2011!! We don't shore fish much.

Also would love to take in a Crabstick Tourney as well!!

Any help on Whitley Bay would be gratefully received.
2016 - Cod, Dab, Dogfish, Gurnard, Ling, Mackerel, Saithe, Scorpian fish. .

Blyth pier nearest but be warned it'll be heaving then, right at the peak of the chav season, they'll be spinners, feathers daylights and all sorts flying everywhere, cans and bottles together with all the other ***** lying all over the place, f'n and blinding like no where else on earth. SSP best bet, doesn't get overrun with them to much and excellent macky venue plus will hoy some big plaice out to worm.

try Old Hartley caravan site, do you tour not sure if they have any statics to rent, but ideal for you, pop down a nice set of steps and you will be on Hartley skeer etc, good chance for a summer cod

The only place that hires statics around here is the Whitley Bay Caravan Park. It used to be called Feathers and would fill up with Jocks during factory fortnight. These days it’s still a popular summer destination for the Scots with a bar on site and St Mary’s island about 5 minutes’ walk.

There is deep water off the back of the island that should be as good as anywhere for mackerel even though very few people fish there for them. The bottom fishing there can be good too. A mile further south is Whitley pipe which uncovers at low water and is worth a look for mackerel if it’s calm enough to be safe.
PM closer to the time if you would like more info..

The closest tackle shops are in Blyth and North Shields; Billy’s in North Shields opens early for the lads going out on the boats.

Inland a mile or so from the caravan site is the Beehive pub which does good beer and local food. In Whitley Bay, you’ll find a couple of good Indian and Chinese restaurants and one of a small chain of amazing value pizzerias.

if you like ice cream you will have to take a trip to Seaton Deleval for one of thiers, they make it on the premises. It's right on the round about. Personally for going out for meals would stay away from Whitley Bay, it's a dump, try Tynemouth or Sambuccas down on North Shields fish quay. Pity Old Hartley didn't have statics.

                      Hello Kayos.
Just to throw my hat in the ring so to speak, why not try to book a static van at Coquet View Holiday Park in Beach Road, Warkworth ? They have around six or seven statics that they hire out each season along with a lodge or two. They also have a pathway down to the beach at Warkworth directly from the site and this takes you across the dunes to the beach. Its a bit of a trek from the park along to the north pier but this is where the Maccy are taken in numbers during the season. If you have a word with Jared, (Park Manager), I am sure that he will be able to arrange something to get you along to the north pier. Personnally, I would steer clear of Whitley Bay holiday park as Ive heard that it gets very noisy at times and there are a certain number of dss people renting vans on the site, (not that there is anything wrong with that but some people may be put off by the thought of a noisy holiday !). Amble is just along the road from Warkworth and Norma and Tony at Amble Angling Centre would be only too pleased to offer advice. Come to think of it, Norma and Tony have a couple of holiday rental cottages right on the harbour at Amble so it might pay you to give them a ring on 01665711200. Hope this helps my Friend.

                      cheers.

                      aa.

And the fish n chips in Amble are not too shabby either but zeccas restaurant or the wellwood are good food options in amble. My tuppence worth.

Thank for the ideas folks, greatly appreciated. We are definitely going to the Whitley Bay park, as you can get 11 days for £186 through the Daily Mail deals, we are Scots after all!

We have been to busy parks and we keep pretty much to ourselves, are out most of the time and don't use the onsite bars or dining, so it doesn't bother us to be honest.

We will definitely try Warkworth pier, we have been to Warkworth before but didn't realise it had a pier, so thanks for that. Also the ice cream sounds great! Perhaps we may see you on a pier or a beach when we are down?
