Braid on multipliers

I've been toying with the idea of having heavier line with thinner diameters and have been considering putting braid on my fathom but was wondering if the braid will be as good as mono for casting ??

Any help is appreciated

I tried it on a slosh 20 , didn't like it , casting and fishing using it .

I tryed it when I started up again and it was a total nightmare. Anykind of headwind and ya in trouble u need to lay ya line perfect ....difficult if ya playing a decent fish and if u snag up I cuts into itself thats a ****

Got PowerPro 50lb on both my Torq 100s on the boat rods, with rubbing leaders tied with
Yukatan knots. At anchor always uptiding/downtiding and whacking it out, never have a problem yet.

Hi mate the key to using braid on a multi (just my humble one like) is using a round profile braid (i.e. power pro) and not getting silly with the diameters (so go for stuff that is .28mm at least).

If your braid is .36mm then the second bit is sorted; as long as it is a nice round profile you should be fine.

Worth pointing out ther are wins and losses from using braid. The big win is better bite detection - no stretch means this is superb (but don't wander too far from your rod as it might be off in the general direction of Holland ) Feeedback from the fish is excellent too - you can feel every pull and shake of the head as you reel in. I like the 66lb as it allows me to fish 50lb rotten bottoms so can use normal clean ground tactics over rough ground and still safely give it a swing.

There are downsides though: in rough seas the rod tip will bounce around like mad due to the lack of stretch. And if you get a decent fish on you can't just bully it in as you would with mono - again the lack of stretch leaves you at risk of riving the hook out. Your casting needs to be up to it as well - a blow up in the cast with braid and it is the end of the session as you won't be picking it out on the beach (but then this is the same with mono - the only difference is in the cost of cutting a braid nest out). I have always had my reels running safe so it's never been a problem for me, and I always carry a couple of spare reels anyway so if the braid is being a pain bouncing around I can always swap over to a mono reel.

On balance I'm a convert - I love my braid set up and will be filling my 7HT Mag up as well next time I'm due to change out the line. I can see why others might be anti but as with most things it's each to their own and it's certainly not the nightmare some would have you believe.

The stuff I'm gonna order is the round profile stuff so it should sit nice on the spool. It's also nice and cheap so if I don't like it I can always take it off and use it on an old fixed spool.

I'm using braid on two of my Abu 7000c's. I have 80lb on one and 50lb on the other. I have absolutely no problems. It casts no different to mono. I thumb it onto the spool no different to how I do with mono. I have caught fish to 12lbs on it without any problem getting them in, in fact you can feel the fish so much more with braid, you can feel every kick. I have never had a problem with it bedding into itself on the reel. The only slight drawback with it is if you fish with your rod in a stand in a heavy sea, the rod tip moves around a little more than when fishing mono; but if you hold your rod it's not a problem and every little bite is felt through the rod.
I've handballed fish up the side of piers with it too, no problem. If you do find that it cuts into your hands then just put a pair of gloves in your pocket and quickly put them on before handballing fish up the pier.

I use 80lb braid on both my 7ht and Akios 656 ctm, as well as my Shimano Gt8000 fixed spool. The only problems I've encountered is that a side wind will take lots of line off the spool midcast, and if you do snag up, you can get line bind on the spool if you you just use the rod to try and free it. Next cast it can stop the line coming off at the same place on the spool. I've been using braid now for over a year and won't be going back to mono anytime soon.

i was using braid on my saltist 30 all through summer and only went back to mono about 6 weeks ago, when laying the line instead of 6-7 turns of the handle try and do less such as four this stops it bedding in. great to pull out of snags and i find you lose less gear. if fishing off a beach in heavy sea's it can be a pain.

however as i mainly fish the rocks edges that are sheltered i was ok. as said make sure its round profile a lot of people tend to go for 66lb power pro and have a good back of mono underneath. i have never had any issues with it bedding in on cast or anything.
