I'm off to Lazarote at the end of this month and last time I was there I went trawling for Marlin (no takes) but when coming back in there were poo loads of fish in the harbour. Does anyone have a clue whether or not you're allowed to fish there or anywhere else in shore or do you need a license? Any help would be appreciated (Puerto Del Camrne if that matters)

you cant fish in the port, there are not many ports you can fish in, and they are very strict about it, you will get away with fishing just the other side of the harbour below the restaurant, mainly small mullett, and sometimes on the begginning of the Quay wall, look out for the two big rays 150-200lb that live in the harbour. You can fish at the end of the harbour and the back of the wall, species all sorts of bream, i got some good ones to over 2lb last year October, i used float fished bread (sqeezed tight) at about thirty foot (sliding float) mullett, loads of small in the harbour, keep feeding bread and you might get a shoal of decent mullett coming by, best last yaewr 4lb, lost two bigger ones, loads of garfish, float fished anything about three feet deep. Try using small bait fish "borgas" for the odd small tuna or barracud, did not see any myself but the locals have apparently had a few. Arracife pier is supposed to be the hot spot, tried begginning of this year, one local got into something big but it got off, i only had a few small fish then the port security chased me off with the car, although a well known north east angler said there was no problem taking your car on. You do need a licence but nobody seems to bother. Local fresh fish shop just beside car park where you can get prawns, shellfish etc for bait and there is a tackle shop just up the road.

Cheers Alan. I'll only have a fairly light spinning rod with me so hopefully one of those rays won't grab hold (They way more than me lol). What size hooks would you recommend for the mullet as I've never caught one. Are we talking size size 10s or size 1s?

size six carp hooks, if you loose a couple of decent fish try a size 4, if they are just little uns around the 1lb -2lb size 8 or 10, if you are using small hooks and you get a good hook hold you will still land a good sized mullett if you are careful. Mind I have seen kids catch mullett at Port patrick on 4/o hooks on one of those orange handlines. For the float fished rig use 1/o long shanked hooks, some of the bream ahve some cannt gnashers and will bite through light mono. If you use a live borga or dead bait 2/0 vikings fished in a apennel rig

if you get a chance have a go for mullet at costa teguise on the far breakwater next to sands beach club.
i have had loads on there and have been snapped off by some huge mullet.

I know it's a bit off topic but was walking around the harbour at Barcelona a couple of weeks ago and watching the usual mullet and bream type stuff feeding on bread. All of a sudden a Gilthead Bream about 2lb chased up off the bottom and snatched stuff off the surface and disappeared. This was close to the shore side straight down the side.

Thanks for all your help lads. Was thinking of going on a boat trip over there but going to duff that and concentrate on trying to catch some mullet now. Never got one before so it'll be something new. Will take all of your infor with me.

parking is no problem there is a big car park next to the sands beach club and the breakwater is only about 200 yds away

what is it like getting along the breakwater, is there a smooth surface or is it the normal big bloody boulder job, have only seen it from the other side of the Bay
