Fished off Lynemouth beach this evening and got a few mackerel, but in the process managed to break my cheap surf reel.

As I am new to this but quite enjoy this sea fishing lark I was thinking of investing in a more permanent aquisition. Can anyone suggest a new reel, and would a multiplier be better for heavy duty, winter shore fishing rather then a standard open faced reel ?

    Cheers.

Hi mate, glad u caught something before ya reel chucked it. If ur gonna stick it out forget the cheapy sh!t and set ur sights higher but dont get carried away until your totally hooked. There's loads of "middle of the range" stuff on the market but beware of multipliers if ur a begginer cos there's a learning curve that knows no bounds! My advice is buy a food mixer from shimano cos they know about gears, good luck
    Regards, Graham
