A bloke in one of the tackle shops said it was now illegal to dig lugworm on the east coast of the country. How true is this?

Some areas are protecetd by the national trust.
We went to Holy Island for a day and one of the lads up there said i could dig as much lug as i wanted and he pointed out where on the shore i could go. One problem i did,nt take my shovel!.
The beaches around Seahouses are protected however when i was making sandcastles with the kids i happened to accidently dig up a couple. I was surprised how small they were.(they were put back honest).

is this right or what, you are not allowed to take sand off beach or pebbles so lugworm is buried in sand so it could be true.latest one i heard was you get fined for turning a rock over on the beach now i give updid you know panel pins comes in diff sizes ?

Yeah it makes me laugh,i was talking to a skipper of a dredger a couple of years ago who was dredging the Tyne from the old bone yard area -Swans ship yard right up to the Davy Bank area. This was all done with goverment funding they dredged down two metres of silt/sh1t etc and this went on for about 3 months. The reason behind this was that toxins had been found in the silt which came from all the dust and crap that has came out of the ship yards dry docks and floating docks etc over the last ? years. So the plan was to remove the toxic silt on barges take it out to sea and then dump it in a designated area. Then send the sand dredger out and cover all this with sand ???????????????...Talk about a waste of effort and money and not to mention where all the toxins are now...Probably washed up on South Shields beach for all the kids to make sand castles out of...
