Been there a few times now.. Both in July and October, got cod every time. We used fresh/frozen crab and fresh mussel cocktails. Although alot of lads use bluey/mackeral with good results. Alot of marks in the area and further north, Arbroath harbour wall - known as "the cages." also behind the old Ballys nightclub, Victoria park, Deils head. 2 miles north of Arbroath is Auchmithie - the old harbour plus rock marks to the left and right of the harbour. Further north is Rumness then Ethie Mains. Lunan bay (sand) Boddin point.. Just a few for you to do some research on before you go, all rough ground marks with exception of Lunan bay.. Hope this of some use

Can't imagine ever fishing the cages on Arbroath pier - horrible place imho. Agree with Usan, good marks all the way up to the lighthouse at Ferryden. Boddin is everything you could want from a fishing mark, providing you like fishing in the tangles. It fishes from the top of the tide downwards, there's half a dozen marks within a two minute walk of each other and there's the chance of a good fish, both summer and winter. Close second is the south side of Auchmithie, just north of Arbroath - great place to fish.

Hello, some good advice already been posted.....good luck and enjoy.

I agree the cages are not for everyone but they do fish very well. This is what they look like, (taken a few years ago).

                    Regards Ian

Aye I've seen the videos John. Not keen on piers at the best of times but 2 or 3 of you standing shoulder to shoulder.....not for me. I only fish with Rod a couple of weeks of the year and within 10 minutes we're stood 100 yards apart lol.

Nice photo Ian......how many years ago???
