Lol! I worry about that happening to me too gregsgt! Greg from Beadnell thanks for the offer mate I will pm you in the new year and get something organised if that's ok. Hopefully save me from gregsgt fate if you can give me a few pointers.
I am going to continue with the FS as well mick but want to give multi's a try, especially on heavier ground. I like FS for braid which I have been lead to believe isnt a good choice of line for a multi?
Been looking at Akios 757 ctm as suggested earlier in thread. Also, to give me an idea, price I should be looking at for a good example old Abu 7000c?

Out shopping with the missus one day and spotted an advertisement in the local paper shop window. A guy was selling his sea gear to buy fly gear and he had a couple of old Abu 7ooo's for sale. I gave him a ring and went along to see him. He had two 7ooo;s for sale, each boxed complete with grease, tools, spare brake blocks !!! These things had been nursed from new and were set up ready to cast. I got them both for £70 !! He was pleased with the sale and so was I !! I still use then for the rough stuff, brilliant, and much better than some of the modern ones.
cheers,
aa.

for a top nick swedish 7000 or 7500 its usually £40 to £70 a piece dependng on the seller.
ID fishing often has them in second hand - or that big auction site is also good to pick a gleamer up.
Often our own trading section has some excellent examples as well.
If you can aim for the blue 7500CTC3, silver 7500C3, or Black 7000C or 7000C Syncro.
The red ones are jsut as good, but come with brass bushes rather than bearings and so can easily be upgraded. My Weapons of Choice
RODS:
Shimano Aspire 130 AX Surf , Shimano Aspire 140 AX Surf, Reelsport Responce ,Team Daiwa TDXS 130XM for the rough, Shakespear Ugly Stick Gold 7ft Spinning

Old Abu's
Originally posted by g-force View PostI just recently serviced an old, original (although it had been converted with a CT bar) 7000c for a friend - it had had a hammering largely from abuse on the boat, the handle was wobbling and the ratchet didn't work properly. After a thorough strip down & clean I was amazed how well the original bearings were still running - they were good as new after re-lubing and everything tightened up nicely again. Just a shame ABU no longer build any of their reels to the same standard
Pick them up for next to now't, service them with new bearings/washers, and a careful set up, bit of red rocket,( I find they need more than a drip).
It doesn't matter what they look like, and you will be glad you have one on the rod when you hit that pig !
Garcia ruined many a good name, I have a 6500 hi speed mag, don't use it on anything but the softest of ground, very flimsy.

i would imagine so - there is 2 local bearing shops who if you take the reel in, they will be able to tell you if they can be replaced and if they have them in stock
