depending on what bait i've got - currently using manta 2/0 if i've just got worms, and manta 5/0 if i've got crab, mackerel, bluey, prawns, etc..

been getting a few decent sized whitey and coley and the usual flounder on the 2/0's, and have been getting codling, but nothing decent, although they are getting there.

when i use the 5/0's on there own with plenty of bait, i've had nowt. when I use them with a 2/0 as the top hook on a pennel, i get the coley/whitey/flounders/codling on the 2/0.

Mark, match your hook size to your bait. Sizes 2/0 to 6/0.
Personally in the ruff I have gone back to bronzed mustard vickings, as 9 x 10 I bend the hook out of a snag but strong enough for a big fish. Just check your hooks regularly and change when required. Though for that 10lber last week, I had a sakuma manta extra 6/0 as had no bigger than 4/0 vickings, and glad I did for the last lift.
Mixed and clean ground snapkuma manta's or if very clean sometimes kamasan's in 2/0 or 3/0 for worm baits.
Big baits big hooks, small baits, small hooks.
