  • fish baits ?

I've never figured out why fish baits do so well over the border and up the east coast of Scotland. Why does it fish better up there and not down here ? Now were in December I'm going to experiment with big fish bait cocktails in search of the better fish. Anyone got any input on this ?

    Cheers.

maybe less intensive shore fishing per mile goes on. Less fishermen catching... more fish??? just an idea.

Theres definately more fish on the east coast of scotland than there is here in the north east.. Get them in any sea state up there, fished arbroath area a number of times now and always catch no matter if the seas been away or not.. Could be theres just alot more cod about the shoreline to home in on the bait.. its a theory anyway!

Same in Norway for me its Bluey all the way.
I am going to Arbroath with Blackrat 10th Dec and am told fish baits all the way. Plus mussel.

I tried a few last night, but on the rocks they were only hitting the crab baits & when I moved onto the beach I offered up some mackerel with a few lug tied around but again they were only hitting the plain lug baits (all fished on 2 hook flappers). Might work better with bigger baits on bigger, single hook rigs in the heavy kelp & deeper water but I thought I'd give it a go anyways…I still think I'd be tying other stuff like crab, mussel or worm in with it though, I don't think I'd use it on it's own (at least not locally).

Bluey works well up Northumberland, loads of doubles get took on it, the bigger fish move to eating fish rather than worms etc.

weve had some big cod in hartlepool using large mackerel baits over the years. i,ll be trying again if theres some movement at the weekend.

its better if using 2 rods or a large hooked, 2 hook rig.

you'll still be fishing with confidence using your regular baits while trying a large lump of fish.

As fish grow and get bigger, they obviously need more protein thus change their diet to fish. Hope this helps.

                          spot on.
i wreckon its a simple case that its mainly the bigger ones which like fish baits.
however, most of the time round here on most marks the bigger ones are simply not there. hence people get the wrong impression of the bait.
most stamp prefer the lug or fresh crab.
like dab catcher says, 2 rods a option
                          just my opinion,

or and................ if the whiting are there your nackered ha
