  • First time fishing mark

I'm looking to take my grandson out at the weekend with his new tackle. I was thinking about fishing the mouth of the Aln and the beach. Where is the closest I can park to the beach/estury and is it far to walk from the car? Also, are there any safety factors to be aware of? Or any ideas for a first fishing trip for a 6 year old, preferably a beach mark so I can make sand castles if I get bored watching the bairn fish.

Hi Graham, I think it is Alnmouth where if you drive down to the golf course you can drive across it and park right next to the beach mate. It can sometimes be very busy though but I am sure you will be able to find a quiet bit for yourselves. Never fished there myself but was told it is a good spot for flatties, sometimes right at your feet so don't cast too far.

    Jim.

Park just over the bridge on the way in to Alnmouth and walk along the footpath next to the bridge. Fish on the river bend with light tackle. Lots of flatties on a flooding tide. I use lug worm baits tipped, but crab and others good as well.

If you're going to fish the beach near the river mouth, PLEASE take care...the currents are absolute killers in that area.
You don't need to wade out very far to feel the effects.

Best bet would be just below the bridge, nice and safe.
