penn 525 mag for me - depends on what line you want to use and the height of the pier when bringing in a fish ,but you would be using 25yds of 60lb shock leader any way

      Would`nt you ??? LOL

525 mag sounds about right or supermag ,there again super mag is same as 525 only a few extra magnets and upgraded bearings

Slosh 20 or 30. Easier for a novice and available for £70

if you want the best go for the penn 525 mag or for around half the price you can get a bog standard abu 7. both are more than up to the task of 95% of north east shore fishing. depends how much you want to spend £100ish or £50ish.

I use a second hand Abu 7000. £40 off e-bay. You can buy them new for that now.
The mags are good reels but pricey. The Slosh are also good reels. Both have magnets which control the spool when you cast. In the right hands they can cast much further than the Abu.
The best thing i like about my Abu is the level wind. You can use it either on the pier,on the beach, or on the boat.
I,m happy with the distance i cast as i am on the pier most of the time.

              Mick.

Mick the Slosh's don't have magnets.

The SL20 would be my bet for a novice. As Chukka says, much more user friendly and easier to control when set up.

ive had a go at the slosh20 and it does perform better then the slosh30 for casting ,the slosh30 is ideal for rock marks and heavy lifting or boat fishing .

Without doubt the Slosh. I'd go for the 30 as you can then use it for pier, beach or rocks. Very reliable reels, very strong, quick retrieve and decent for casting

yes the trusty old slosh, i think every decent angler has had 1 of these over the years, ive had mine 7 year now and have had no probs at all. ive also got the new 30shv but prefer the old 1.
