  • Why do people have to spoil a good days fishing??/

Fished Dunstanburgh Castle today,my first outing in quite a while. We arrived this morning to find the rock jam packed with people fishing for mackrel,so we found a nice quiet patch of rock that was un-occupied and began fishing, all around us people were catching and keeping the mackrel fair enough thats fine if you put them to good use i.e eating or bait for the winter, but not for putting a whole one on your hook and casting it in to try and catch a seal yes he actually tried to catch a seal on his rod a seal did go for the bait but luckily enough the seal bit the mackrel in two and left the head still attached to the hook,he then even cast it back out to try again! Then to top it all off when everyone had finished and packed up and left we decided to move further up the rock to our disgust, the rocks were littered with empty packets of daylights not one but around a dozen, a big birds nest of line left there and the remains of mackrel guts all over the place,i felt i had to pick there rubbish up before i left as i couldn't leave it that way,all in all i enjoyed my days fishing but what was happening around me put a dampner on the day.
By the way i didn't catch at all,my mate managed 1 mackrel.

Unfortunately these people surface every year Charlie, some of them even fish all year round. Just have a look at the posts about the piers being such a mess, once again it doesn't show us in a very good light.

I have been up that way twice recently but don't fish that mark for that reason.

      Jim.
Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them.

It gives us good anglers a bad name would these people leave their homes in a mess or there gardens? Stupid question i suppose.

you find that this time of year all the mackeral wallers come out of the woodwork but when the weather kicks in its the true fisherman that stay out

thats why we call them numpties. but its not just them blyth pier itself is a sh*t hole rubbish and birdsnest everywhere.

its everywhere now, its not just the piers in the summer, although this is probably the most noticable. i was piking on auchenreoch last year, now the swim i was fishing is probably the most accessable swim you can imagine, you park in a layby and fish less than 15 yards from the car. right next to where you park there are wheelie bins provided for rubbish, and yet i found the swim full of anglers rubbish and mutilated pike. i filled THREE black bags of rubbish. theres scumbags everywhere.
i was thinking another organised clean up by us on roker or shields pier could be in order, but unfortunatly i think it may be couter productive by raising awareness of the problem to people who have the power to close piers etc. what is really needed is the genuine anglers to take a zero tollerance attitude to the charvas / numpties call them what you will dropping their litter cans etc by challenging them. not easy if your on your own and there half a dozen p*** heads. what we need to do is have a word with a dozen or so genuine blokes before hand and all challenge unacceptable behaviour together. instead of moaning and bitching about it lets take a pro active approach, the same conversation comes up year in year out but the problem persists, lets do something positive and reclaim the piers etc from the tw**s.
                            rant over..............

well done for cleaning up charlie, ive done the same myself up that way an numerous ocasions. if idiots like you mentioned keep on doing that the national trust will not let anyone through the castle and close it completley to angles. i have been up there before and found loads of empty cans and litter all over the place. it makes the countryside look horrible and not to mention the harm it can do for the wildlife. at this point i would say bring licencing in but it would not make any difarence as with river fishing you would still get the ones who say F*** IT and still fish regardless.

                              cheers
