  • Strange baits

I found myself looking at boilies earlier...and wondered if they would work for any sea fish...

Has anyone tried it? Have any other strange baits been tried in the name of fishing science?
    Ooh a new vid!

Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.

instead of boilies get yourself a carp feeder thing (canister thats full of holes) set it behind your lead and fill it with old bait and smelly mussel

One i've never heard since - back in the early 80's someone my dad worked with claimed that chicken skin worked, so yes we tried it... crabs loved it, caught nowt else though!

I've caught coalies in the past and found them with stomachs full of sweetcorn, obviously just been scavenging..

              Saying as I'm on...............................

pigs liver..........I was told a few years ago by one of the lads on here (Bigh) that pigs liver was a cracking bait. Didn't really see how THAT would be - so decided to try it one night on Shields pier. Took 2 rods (and using exactly the same rigs, cast out to the same distance) baited one with the "traditional" baits (rag - lug - squid - mack strip - mussell) and one using nothing but pigs liver..........caught absolutely NOTHING on the "traditional" baits - but reeled in fish after fish (Whiting) on the pigs liver. It was strange that not a thing was caught on the trad baits and I was reeling in a fish on every cast using pigs liver.

It's gotta be FRESH liver though (full of blood and scent), once frozen it's not so effective !

                Eeh

That reminds me TC of my long forgotten trips to Africa, which I daren't suggest any more!!! Catch a gully shark (big, big doggy) 30lb ish. Remove liver and gills. Tie in a tennis ball shape and go get a 300lb shark. Ooooh I want a divorce and I'm not even married yet!
