They are brilliant reels mate. They can still easily hold a good quantity of 25lb line for winter fishing (mine did). They are just bomb proof, cracking little reel for casting with the power and gearing to winch fish in if that big coddie shows up.

Wouldn't know about swapping a 525 mag for one, especially an original one, but everyone to their own. Definitely are great reels though mate, wish if never parted with mine lol.

The new mag 2s are nice reels but not a patch on the older USA built ones

                  515 vs 525

try google loads of info on the 515 much eaiser to control than the standard 525 mag add a extra magnet makes them a pleasure to use both nice reels if u fish clean ground get the 515 if u fish mixed to heavy stick with the 525

I personally wouldn't have a 515 I'd rather stick with the 525, they cast just as far n hold more line, if you happen to snap off or get snagged up there's still plenty of line left on the reel for a coulpe of snap offs

look a canny reel for around a £110 new, just wish me elite had the same retrieve qualities, that would be some reel. still getting one though

I have had the 515 for a while now and also use an Abu mag elite, but prefer the515. As for the question of line capacity it holds about 230 yards of 18lb mono, and how many anglers would be able to empty that while fishing a 6oz lead plus a big bait.My advice is get the Penn mag2 515 you wont be disappointed.

I've got one if each and have had no issues, the 515 holds less line but I'm no big caster like some of super stares on here
