I love fishing for mackerel but you only have real fun when you start using your spinning rod and playing them...they give you a great fight but i'll only keep what i need.

Well I'm glad that my original opinion is shared by the majority on here.
I used to be one of the masses who used to get up at daft o'clock to go down to Roker for dawn, but not anymore. If I want some, I wait till I go to Scotland for my weeks holiday, and normally pick up enough when I'm spinning for Pollack.
In this day and age, I still can't believe that people use feathers and the likes for them. Try spinning or floatfishing for gods sake. Its easier, and far more enjoyable.Davy

I might give float fishing ago but I will have to ask someone to show me how to first lol as I have never done it before.

I honestly cannot believe that people want to fish like that.....And worse admit it?
It's goes the same with the cod on the boats people bragging about catching more than they can possibly need."And I looked, and behold'a pale horse; and his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed with hi, and power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword and with hunger, and with the beasts of the earth"

personally i think 40 fillets is enougth to freeze for bait and if u run out mackrels not exactly the dearest fish to buy, couple of quid from morisons at the most.
why do they do it
they must get some kind of a hard on walking off with 100 mackrel, only reason i can think of
howay lads invest in a spinning rod, believe me its much better and enjoyable fighting a macky on them than your 13ft broom shank
only 1 word barbaric

you have edited the original post ,so must be a tad concerned about what it has attracted in the way of answers - Problem is though Davy red has "quoted" also ,so it stays on the board for all to read what was said before your edit

Thought for the day:
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs
Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.

New season, same unbelievable tactics and excuses.
This subject rears its head every year at this time. My opinion,.. take what you need to eat or for bait, and return the rest. Dont dump them on the pier, leave them in bags, or give the f******s to chinese blokes.
strings of feathers were designed to take mackerel for bait, not to catch 200 plus a session. If its for sport, use a spinner and light rod for christs sake.
Every singlle mackerel dumped on a pier is ammo for the anti angling brigade.
Its unnecassary, pointless, wasteful, and downright infuriating.
Dont be surpriseds when piers are closed during the mackerel season, or limits put on the amount of people allowed on for Health and Safety reasons.Maker and inventor of CANNYLINKS, the best rotten bottom system bar none. IMHO!
