How long a leader are you using,8 turns around the spool and then your drop length is enough ,this could cause your problem, you can get away with more leader if you are not really hitting into it for a big cast.A lot could depend on your style ,weight of lead your using ,etc.

a compressor s then its not the rod that's at fault . poss knot size or leader length

As said it's not the rod I've got the compressor grad prix with the reel 5 inches from the butt and never had any trouble even when pendulum casting, try adjusting the spool/brake settings on your reel

As above, it's your casting to blame not the rod / eyes - the answer is in your own question as you say it happens when you try to hit the cast harder. Try slowing your reel down or learning a smoother / better technique

                      knot probs

Try cutting your leader knot tag ends to the minimun, if its the standard knot your using the thicker end should be facing back and away during the cast and should not be a problem, as its already threaded when set up ready to cast, and the thinner main line should be smaller and no problem.
