    don't mind...

...being called Great at all Jim.

As to fishing the "perfect drift" the same question of morality applies....I'm keen to go boat fishing at some point but how many skippers operate catch and release?

When I see the picture of a guy with a 5ft 20lb Ling I ask myself "is he gonna eat all that fish?"

Do the skippers keep a percentage of the catch for sale? or do the lads keep everything they catch?
    Ooh a new vid!

what you dont need put back

the best way to keep fish alive is before you go fishing is to get a small file and blunt the barb on the hook even if it gets off its a life saved but 9 times out of 10 they still come to you and if the hooks right down its neck its so easy 2 get out so try it if yah just fishing for fun and you never know you might catch that same fish 5 years later

A good point John, I tend to flatten my barbs with some pointy nosed plyers when I am spinning. As you say, if you want to release them it is the easiest way.

Welcome to NESA mate, I missed your last post.

        Jim.
Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them.

I must apologise a bit - I think a lot about the ins and outs of fishing and these are all valid questions about pain and power and greed and animal rights and all that. I've voiced similar thoughts on here before. No 2 ways about it we are messing with fish and they don't like it. I got over that fact, call me evil!

The chance to brain a fish and rip it's guts out would be a fine thing for me right now. Slippery little *******s

This is a great thread in true NESA tradition ,there've been some great points raised ,most of which I've found myself nodding away as I read them ,a great debate ,we all respect our quarry ,well I like to think we all do , personally I've waited so long for my doubler that I've made a pact with Norman that if it does come then I want the release on video for the site.

its simple if you dont want to eat the fish you catch use barbless hooks and a disgorger .
from a boat simply un hook and relese the fish
but the thing is steve you might let a doubler fish go whats stopping the next boat from knocking it on the heed .
the quickest and less painless way to kill a fish you want to keep is a slice behind the head
belive me it wont flap around much after that (iff it do its the motor instincts of the fish it wont last long)

When it comes to quality eating fish that are worth keeping then I'm sure most will agree that the two to six pound range ,maybe even five pounds taste better than a bigger fish and in my book I'd rather see them swim off .

                              Sweet....

                              ...Jesus!!!

I did consider making a similar reference to the "priest" in some of my earlier ramblings but was afraid I'd offend someones sensibilities.

It prob won't take long before we blame the suffering of fish on the government and migrant workers....
