Just bought one of these systems and tried it to make some cart baits. I have to say I am impressed. You get a really neat round bait which should cast better than the big rough chunks I have been using. Also because you can compress it down with the plunger the bait is more solid and should in theory take longer to break down.

Been using bandage and cling film and have caught on both, but difficult to get a neat bait I find.

Anyone else tried it ? The nylon web is a bit pricey but might use 22mm sausage skins when I run out. I think the key advantage is being able to compress the baits hard. You get less baits of course numerically but for sure there is more concentrated crab in each.

Got me thinking it might be useful to make crab avoiding baits too. One because of the mesh parcel itself but in theory at least you could put some floating material in the parcel to lift baits off the bottom. I might try that out next time on the river. Any thoughts?

armamesh is mint for soft baits. seems a wee bit pricey but it lasts a canny while imho. i also tend to use mashed baits paste ( prawn/macky/bluey ) and have had results too. also handy for peelers. as for kart magpies ur seepage rate might be abit higher imo. best probably to use stockings or finger bandage to ensure a longer lasting scent trail.

It may be expensive to buy the original plunger and tube of mesh but remember, once you've bought that all you need to do is buy re-fills when you run out - which aren't that expensive lads. Just thought I'd mention it.

I got the 22mm fine mesh mate, hope it will be ok for Cart, looks just like the bandage I have been using tbh. Its great the way you can make a really compacted stick shaped bait. Its one of those things where when you get it you start to see loads of other uses.

the mesh expands mate. found my best kart methods is clingfilm with few pin pricks. even stocking can come back after 20 mins rather empty.

That looks like a canny idea. I think I'm gonna give it a go. Can anyone tel me roughly how big each hole is in the fine mesh?
                  All the gear, no idea.

Ordered some myself after watching the BFM video, heard people say it washes out extremely quick though but have to try it myself to actually have an opinion on it I suppose....

Me I find with bandage it seems to wash out after 15 - 20 mins but tbh I am happy casting again after that. When I have caught on Cart you seem to get bites pretty quickly, I guess because its a big bait with a lot of scent coming off. That said earlier this week the whiteys were tearing it apart within 5 mins, even with double cling film and no holes in it. Bait robbers! If I am waiting for bites I like to cover it in some squid or lash a mussel or two on as well. I guess that's another idea, put a mussel in the mesh with the cart ?

Used the 22mm fine myself and it's no better than finger bandage tbh, it's perhaps worse as although it's fine it's not really fine enough.

The baits I made looked great, very very neat, problem was the washout rate with a bait lasting 5-10 mins max.

I reckon if you're using it for scent then it's fine in the mesh as part of a cocktail. If using it solo it's tights or glove fingers for me.

                            Just my opinion of course!
