  • Dead sea fears....

Not sure if any one has read this ,but i certainly find it a bit concerning. The fact that they say the effect will only be to a limited area of the coast and if after 2 years the damage is too bad they will then stop pumping the contaminated water into the sea and treat it .Surly the damage is then done to a beautiful area to fish ?
As i write this there are probably lots of you guys fishing there in the shields open ,Give it two years and it wont be worth fishing there.
Anyone got any thoughts on this ?

I think its a total disgrace that the environment agency say its ok to pump that **** into the sea without treating it first then worry in 2 years time when the sea bed resembles a patio...TREAT IT BEFORE PUMPING IT!!!!!

Totally agree Ian, treat it from the start then no need to fear a problem in
      the future.

Hmmm I'll be very surprised and disappointed if this goes ahead, at least the councillors are highlighting concerns.

I wonder just how much money will be passed on to the Trust from the coal board for allowing these tests to happen.
If people think you are an idiot, why speak and remove all doubt !

Its not that long ago that they dumped the water and the waste into the sea and no one moaned then, Wasnt it then that the beaches and sea were black and some of the best cod fishing in the country.

Apparently there's a danger of it contaminating local water supplies

                        Hi Sean, how you doin.

response to your post: if you are reffering to the Seaham beaches, which i think you are, i believe it was a different type of waste which was treated before being dumped.

                          Hi Terry

I am doing Ok but still not as wealthy as you!

As for the waste I belive and googling around it seams that the area was one of the most polluted, but this was probably due to the sediment from the waste and slurry, yes the water contained heavy metals and these may have had some affect but I bet the biggest would have been the blanket over the seabed. All whilst this was happening it was one of the best fisheries in the north. I would love to see a chemical analysis of the water before it gets dumped then I would know more. Somethimes we go on about stuff been dumped into the sea when there are natural seams exposed under water.

The Tories closed the pits Terry. Let this government pay for the cleanup not the taxpayer.
