As of yet mate non have showed, although there have been reports of loads of mackeral just a few miles of seahouses. There is a lot of sandeels of whitburn steel at the moment so you could see them in a week or two from the piers, the best feathers to use for early mackeral are little shrimp rigs(you pick up launce, coalies, pollack as well when there are no mackeral). I have also heard the odd one of Roker, and a few of shields but people are getting a few Launce and coalies of both shields and roker to spinning tactis. I was getting herring and sandeels along with coalies this time last year of the small wall at shields, so you can do nothing but try because you just never now you might pick some up if you try. I am going to have a bash the middle of the week with the tide coming up, and the tides dropping of on shields. AS soon as they stop getting them on the piers in september/ october on the feathers use floats with a sliver of mackeral belly and by god you hammer the mackeral. Hope this information helps you mate.
