Nothing wrong with Wellies for the winter so long as they are decent ones.
Muck Boots are great, neoprene lined & really warm. My first pair lasted about 5 years including Bait digging a fair bit. Not Cheap but i went through 2 pr of £25 Wellies in one year before these.
Have tried Walking Boots, Skeetex Boots etc but these are better imo.
Completely agree with you Bob, Muck boots are the best by far. Very warm, waterproof with a good sole.
I have some Skeetex boots too which are ok but they are only waterproof to the ankle.

+1 to muck boot that's what am wearing so comfy and warm a wear with a pair of Norwegian socks keeps your feet toasty.
Iv just bought myself a pair of extreme snow walking boots from mountain warehouse at royal quays last sat. They are reduced from £100 to £50 and they have a extra 20% off at the moment so £40 they look and feel lovely. Got meself a new pair of salopettes aswell reduced from £80 to £30 in the sale.
Muck Boots are the thing,on their own, fairly warm in winter, toasty with a pair of hiking socks and not stupidly hot in summer if you need to wear them then.
I bought mine for canoeing (proper canoeing not kayaking!) and even when you get water over the top they quickly rewarm and stay warm.
Very comfortable as well, unlike any wellie I've ever worn.
