  • Clique?!

Alright, I'm going to express my views with this site, firstly i feel its very cliquey. Topics are often posted on this site with no replies from either new members or people who are not in the "clique". I enjoy seeing people catch fish just as much as i do mysef esp when i have given them the info. I see the same people reply to certain others all the time and these are the people who live on this site!!

Secondly, friendly banter between people shoudnt get out of hand, Its only fishing!!! If you enjoy the site matchman/Penn 343yards whats the point of cutting your nose off too spite your own face?! I personally think the mag is rubbish (thats my opinion )and should take a look at the coarse fishing mags such as match fishing and advanced pole fishin 4 tips! Esp when using the pole to hand 4 flatties

Thanks steve. What i meant is that unless i caught a 10pounder (which i did last year) no one wants to know you. I was asked to fish that nesa challenge trophy cos the north side were strugglin and i dont think one of the TEAM actually asked us or give us any advice even though my mate tried to strike up conversations.

No need be like that anyway, I'm just striking up a point. Sorry if i offended anybody. I prefer coarse fishing now.

This forum, same as any other forum, is as good as the people who contribute to it. That involves making posts and responding to them....cant say we have seen too many posts from you. The so called clique are actually the people who bother to respond no more no less. Perhaps if you joined in you would get to know people more - there is always folk happy to offer help and advice around here. I certainly haven't caught a ten pounder...yet and certainly dont feel excluded.

i agree with ali, i started posting a few years ago and sometimes would have just a few replies, just keep posting then people will start to get to know you. its like moving to a new area and going out for a pint, you could go to the same pub for months, buy yourself a pint and sit and just say hello and nowt else but if ya get off your but and strike up conversation you will get to know people and make friends........ get me drift........ a good example of this on here is daren, he posted and has made some good friends
its a friendly site and the only time it gets competative is the N vs S comp lol

i would not say cliquie i would say like minded groups of mates from certain areas fishing and posting if that makes any sence

aye welcome to the site stewy

            cheers

i sometimes feel if im billy nomates as well , but allthough i look everyday i hardly ever post, again i fished the north south and felt a bit left out, but thats because i didnt push myself into any of the groups. everyone i did speak to though was very friendly , and im sure if i had put in a bit more effort i would have been rewarded.

I agree with Simon and Stewy07, I've posted a fair few posts now and tried to join in the more serious posts with objective views but often find that they are ignored and the subject reply refers back to previous posts - almost as if the post I posted was invisible!

The one thing I have gained from NESA is a good friendship with Kingfisher - not through the site but because I bumped into him on Whitley Beach. This has resulted in a few fishing sessions lately which I've really enjoyed and gained knowledge from.

I do think the site has a "clique" element to it which at times has been a little dis-heartening. Especially if I've thought about a point to raise and eagerly anticipated a response but with none forthcoming.

Again I fished the NvS and felt a little bit isolated as I didnt know anybody really.

Dont get me wrong - I like the site - I keep coming back and I recommend it to others. I just understand where the lads are coming from.

                    Hmmm.
Im gonna put my oar in here.
Im sorry if ANYONE feels left out because they feel this site is cliquey. But I can see how it might feel that way to some newer members.
Ive been a member for about 3 years. and I can see how you might feel left out as it were.
if youre reading this and feel that way, Im Paul, AKA Hiram Abif. I know Willywtegg from school, ( we left circa 1973) Ive met Sixfoot steve, Sless, Stores, Bax, Bigman, TC, and a lot of others through this site. I often recommend this site to anglers, as, In my opinion, If you need to know ANYTHING, someone here will help you.
Matbe it does take time for people to respond to yoour posts, in either a serious, or jokey way. Please dont be offended.
The NvS comp is relatively new, as is the Annual (3Rd) Mull Trip, ( Dumfries and Galloway), This year its up to six members, Me, Sixfoot, Sless, Steeve G, and Insanojackson, Ive never met Insanijackson before, but Im sure well have a great time.
I suppose what Im trying to say is, be patient, enjoy yourselves, and your fishing.
Have some input, ask questions, and remember, every one of us here, made a first post sometime.
Maker and inventor of CANNYLINKS, the best rotten bottom system bar none. IMHO!

Well put Paul. Stewy07 if you mean clique by groups of people that tend to talk to each other all of the time then I understand what you mean. That is what mates or friends do. If you look at all of your posts apart from this thread they are in answer to Steve115 who I would guess is a mate or a friend. That is what friends do. Does this mean that you and Steve are in a clique, of course not.

Steve115 I have looked through a lot of your posts both last night and this morning and can see that you have joined in and have had loads of crack on here, not sure where you are coming from about being ignored mate.

I too have made reply's on different threads that a couple of posts later look like they have been ignored. You will find though that this is not the case. When anyone (this will include both you and me) reads through a thread they will come to a post that they would like to reply to. They make the reply and sometimes a post that is in between will get left out. That doesn't mean that we are being ignored or that no one loves us lol. It means that people are answering the part of the thread that is most important to them.

As far as the N v S comp goes I don't know I wasn't there but I will say this. Exactly the same thing was mentioned last year by a lad fishing for the south side. Again I don't feel there is any mallace intended there either. A lot of us do not see each other from one comp to the next and we also look forward to meeting people that we have talked to on here so that we can put a face to a name. Again it can happen that someone can get left out. I for one never have time for any crack at the winter comp because when you are organising things and taking money, ticking names on lists and praying you have not missed anyone out, you don't have time.

When I first joined NESA I felt a bit of an outsider but nothing could be further from the truth. You could walk into a pub and no one speak to you all night either, go in the following night and have a great time.

I would say that there are lots of different groups of friends but clique, I don't think so.

                      Jim.

Not found the site like that at all. Shortly after joining i fished with a couple of people on here and found them fine.

Nobody even shot me down for my views on the david milliband topic, If i had posted that on other forums then im sure i would have been.

I seem to get a few replies on this board but as has been said earlier as with all mates, when you get to know a few people, they are more likely to respond to your posts (common interests as it were). They're a good bunch of lads on here and just stick in with it. I've been to the friday evening NESA comps, had a couple of pints with them and I've been on a boat with NESA lads and got plenty of advice and had a good bit craic. Of course there are cliques but isn't there in any part of life?

like Paul, AKA Hiram Abiff has said the same applies for me, i joined about the same time and got to know a few folk, now these folk are mates, fishfinder, jim, keithb, potsy, ray, tompa and many more that i know fish with and socialise with, its not a clique. its "mates" and i would wellcome and share with anyone places i fish, if they can put up with me i dont mind fishing with anyone. i answer to many posts on here not just people i know if i can help or want to say good welldone for catching, i might miss a few out but thats how it is sometimes, no big deal.

                            cheers

Think everyones said pretty much what I would say, that people will post on issues that they feel are relevant to what they want to say or they may have a friendship thru meeting each other on the beach and just end up having a bit of banter. I think if the site was really cliquey you'd find there'd be no views on specific posts, which isn't the case. Look at a topic that may be started and check out how many views it has. If it's got none after a couple of days then you are definitely a tank top with no mates, but if it's had dozens of views but no replies, then maybe people just don't have anything to add to the mix.
Like everywhere you can't judge who will click with who, don't ask me why but at work I get on better with the IT dept than I do the accounts dept. Sometimes I get along better with my oldest son than my middle or youngest, but the week after it may be the youngest I have more banter with.
Think the only lad I've met from the site is Marksworld up at Craster, and now when ever I'm up there fishing or on exercise with the Coastguard I always look out for him(not seen him since like). I'd like to meet up with some of the other lads/lasses on the site while out fishing but I only ever fish between amble and Beadnell in the winter so it's knowing when and where people are gonna be.
