  • License or Permit for the pier?

I forgot to mention yesterday; One of the "Manc" lads ( their boat trip had been cancelled) who came up the pier after me yesterday, told me that a bloke had stopped him and asked if he had a rod license!

He'd come straight up to me when he got to the end and asked about rigs to use and what the bottom was like etc. I gave him the best advice I could, which wasn't a lot to be honest but then he asked me about the license thing and explained what had happened. I told him if someone was asking that, then they were almost certainly nutters or taking the pixx

His phone went off then, and it was one of his mates asking where he was on the pier. He told them, then asked if the bloke with the hi -vis jacket had collared them about a license, "No" came the reply.

I told the lad that you didn't need a rod licence and he said he knew that and had told the bloke as much, who then said something along the lines of: "Aye mebee not at the minute but it's going to change and there'll be a lot of upset folk on here!"

I asked the lad what this bloke looked like and he said he was wearing a Port of Tyne hi-vis coat and was well built with dark hair.
I'd passed one of the pier watchmen coming back down the pier as I was heading for the end and all he had said to me was that it; "was a bit windy the day mind!" with a smile and nothing more.

He sounded like the same bloke but I found it a bit hard to believe he would have bothered to challenge the lad and not me

anyone got any more info or ideas?

    Steve

Possibly Andy but while I was talking to him, his phone went off, turned out to be one of his mates asking where abouts on the pier he was. He told him "the end" then asked him if he'd been collared by anyone asking about a license but he said he hadn't so ..... who knows?!

It seems to be a load of crxp anyway, so whatever the motive or meaning, it doesn't seem to matter now

Mind you, the lad was from Manchester way and therefore a definite "foreigner", so there might have been a misunderstanding or confusion in the mutual translation

          cheers

Are you talking about the labour party MP?

I wouldnt bother, firstly he is the Sunderland MP, this 'happened' in shields, and secondly, this kid is making it up, it never happened anyway!
